Lea in Nigeria

Friday, 10 August 2012. Back in the Groove? Two weeks ago we arrived back in the UK to a bitter winter evening and the potential for serious hypothermia. We have sort of re-acclimatised thanks to a suitcase of wooly socks, vests and padded shirts that we had in storage. The winter wind no longer whistles round my ears thanks to my rediscovered wooly hat but the damp greyness is hard to get used to again. Links to this post. Lea in Nigeria: March 2011

http://leainnigeria.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, 31 March 2011. Are they additions to my collection, or are they newly bleached by the sun? Is the aging process gathering momentum in the tropical heat, is it the result of my addiction to bottled peanuts, or are my arm hairs responding to the over-use of Omo? The real question is what, if anything, do I do about this situation? So, should I pluck or am I stuck? No, I have decided! Links to this post. What is it with Celine Dion? Even the local barber salon is no refuge. Along with a trim, ...

Lea in Nigeria: October 2010

http://leainnigeria.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 20 October 2010. We're Off (Our Heads! It has been a long day already and its only mid afternoon - six hours before our flight is due to leave. It feels as though we have been playing out anend game for the past week. We have had numerous frantic moments to do with renting out the house, packing, cleaning, making wills, packing, cleaning, re-roofing the shed, making storage arrangements and re-packing. Passports ans visas only arrived yesterday - cutting it a bit fine, I thought! I'm on the lo...

Lea in Nigeria: February 2011

http://leainnigeria.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, 24 February 2011. We could see the clouds massing and the sky growing an ever deeper shade of grey – but this is the heart of the dry season! It is not supposed to rain until late March or April, but it has. We had carried on walking. Soon the water that was pouring down the shallow ditch outside, overflowed. Into the kiosk and we found ourselves ankle deep. The actual storm drains seemed to be largely ineffective, clogged by months-worth of garbage. I couldn’t be any wetter. 8211; and we have ...

Lea in Nigeria: May 2011

http://leainnigeria.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 31 May 2011. Yesterday afternoon we attended a celebration in the State Governor’s banquet hall. And had spent most of the morning helping decorate the hall to give it the sense of occasion that the event deserved. The Governor himself was to address the assembled dignitaries, press, members of the public, children and their teachers, ex-pats and those who are still fairly ‘pat’. Eventually the High Table was assembled – the Governor would not be present after all and would be represented ...

Lucy in Nigeria: December 2011

http://lucyinnigeria.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Sannu da zuwa. Welcome to my blog. Monday, 19 December 2011. Back in early November we hosted the best sallah party in our house. And I am happy to report that many of the 12 guests said it was their number one and best time they have had in Nigeria. That made me so happy. We even sacrificed our goat that we had bought several months ago in preparation. It was a fun and interesting experience, although I never want to slaughter, wash or cook another goat again! A good, one time experience! Caroline in Ni...
