Leaning Pines Ranch

The morning lion . . . This has already paid dividends as he captured a mountain lion sauntering through this morning. This camera is set up on the small pond (dug out for backfill when we built in 2011). It is about 100 yards from the house. Doubt I will ever stop being amazed by those with whom we share this little piece of the forest. Several pairs of twins . . . this morning one was chasing the turkeys around. This photo was probably taken in 1872 and shows Mattie with her four youngest brothers.

Leaning Pines Ranch: October 2014

http://www.leaningpines.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

The weather has been fine so Greg and I are continuing our work on the property. We have removed many dead aspens, done a bit of wildfire mitigation (removing low cedars/juniper from under the pines) and "relocated" a lot of the slash/debris from fallen pines. Sadie is atop the slash pile - must be searching for just the right stick. Our little 4-wheeler and trailer have been the workhorse of our clean up operations. We do have a couple of other trees in another location with similar dates. We love livin...

Leaning Pines Ranch: Greg is busy, too!

http://www.leaningpines.blogspot.com/2015/08/greg-is-busy-too.html

Greg is busy, too! There are many clusters of oak brush on the property that are over grown and filled with years of decaying plant matter. Greg has appointed himself the guardian of the oak brush so . . . . He spends hours pruning and picking up the debris. Looks great! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Not the only one learning new skills . . . Bogie has figured out how to open the sliding screen door so he can go outside whenever he pleases. It is not, however, "pleasing" to chase the critters he brings in to play with him. First, ya just hook a claw in the corner of the screen . . . With a bit of tug - freedom! Leaning Pines Ranch: April 2014

http://www.leaningpines.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Alert: Spring has been delayed! On Saturday Greg and I caught spring fever and were outside enjoying the weather. Greg put half inch rabbit wire on the outdoor garden bed to keep "most" of the critters out of the garden. We turned all the soil in the greenhouse, beds and pots and added some manure compost to the soil. We are ready to grow! Saturday - most of the snow receded. Monday we are back to winter - was 15 degrees at 7 am. Dave, Lisa and Diane. Grammie with Dave's girls: Morgan, Lexie and Lauren.

Horseback41: Rainy Memorial Day

http://horseback41.blogspot.com/2015/05/rainy-memorial-day.html

Sunday, May 24, 2015. We drove up to Kendall Valley Lodge for lunch. Pretend the gas tank isn't there. The mountains which really didn't show up well with this camera were beautiful. This is at the dam on the lake.love the water roaring through it. Then we drove up to the old ranch to change water. Had to stop and chat with ML's little colt. Some of the flowers and mushrooms were all over. Yesterday Jane and Scott stopped for a while to visit and let dogs out. Jane has Oscar here with Molly and Jeb.

Horseback41: A Day in the life of a "wounded" ditch rider..

http://horseback41.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-day-in-life-of-wounded-ditch-rider.html

Friday, May 22, 2015. A Day in the life of a "wounded" ditch rider. Bob was called to turn water down the Cooley ditch. We visited Allen and Faith while on that run. Several bucks were in the yard cropping dandilions. Yeah. Their horns are really growing. Got a call to shut the ditch off. This is so interesting, Gina. I didnt know these ditches ran around town. I need to pay more attention. Very glad to see Bob up and about. Allan and Faith look wonderful (a little chilly.) And look at Bob go!
