Leap Feet First: Klong Toei Cooking Class
http://leapfeetfirst.blogspot.com/2010/09/klong-toei-cooking-class.html
Sunday, September 19, 2010. Klong Toei Cooking Class. Yesterday I took the first steps towards becoming a Thai master chef. My friend Mary and I signed up to take a cooking class offered by Helping Hands. A non-profit entity that helps people living in the Klong Toei slum build a better life for themselves by supporting micro-business opportunities. The Thai cooking class was taught by Khun Poo, a wonderful lady who was full of energy and laughter. Pickled garlic and dried onions. A Good Night for a Fight.
Leap Feet First: October 2012
http://leapfeetfirst.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 18, 2012. Ahhh, I just love all of the texture on this mixed media piece. I started this piece with a 6 inch X 6 inch canvas. I covered the canvas with paper from a variety of books in different languages as well as music sheets. I also cut apart a bingo card and decoupaged that onto the canvas. Here is a shot of one side of the canvas. This really shows the crackle medium an the texture paste. Once everything was dry I ran a bronze ink pad over the top to highlight the peaks. For the l...
Leap Feet First: January 2013
http://leapfeetfirst.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 16, 2013. I usually don't make traditional New Year's Resolutions, in fact I usually don't make resolutions at all. But this year I've decided that I want to push my self creatively. This desire to try new things has always been a part of my personality, and I am excited about focusing that desire on one specific project this year. Inspired by a wonderful handmade book created just for me by the amazing Emma at QuirkieCraft. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Leap Feet First: September 2012
http://leapfeetfirst.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 27, 2012. For my latest hoopla artwork I knew I wanted to create something based on one of my favorite television shows- Firefly. I decided to embroider a part of the opening theme song, but I needed the perfect fabric to stitch it on. After searching the local fabric stores, I decided to create my own galaxy fabric! Starting with a piece of plain black cotton fabric. Add a little diluted bleach and scrunch the fabric. Now the stitching can begin! Links to this post. Is licensed under...
Leap Feet First: Batten Down the Hatches- Preparing for Floods in Bangkok
http://leapfeetfirst.blogspot.com/2011/10/batten-down-hatches-preparing-for.html
Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Batten Down the Hatches- Preparing for Floods in Bangkok. Bangkok is currently in preparation mode as flood waters from the north move closer and rain continues to fall. In our neighborhood, life seems to be going on as normal, with a few exceptions:. Shop owners building a concrete wall in front of a shop along Rama IV. Lumpini MRT station with new steel gates on the windows. Pile of sandbags outside the Silom Complex. Nearly empty shelves at the local grocery store. I hope ...

The MacLeod Thaimes: November 2014
http://themacleodthaimes.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Our Adventures of moving to Asia, again. Monday, November 3, 2014. I started this blog a year ago, but forgot about it. Mary and I had an almost identical experience tonight that reminded me to go back and finish this blog. Here you go. We've actually seen a flying fox before, at the zoo in Singapore. The version we saw in Singapore was the Malaysian Flying Fox which is actually slightly larger than their Thai relatives. We've spotted these bats on almost the exact same dates two years in a row. If y...

Our Adventures of moving to Asia, again. Saturday, May 24, 2014. Really Vancouver, you can do better than this. The coup was in THAILAND. I can't be too critical of this Canadian journalist though, we've had American friends and even relatives make the same mistake about where we live. Friday, May 23, 2014. Have you ever wondered how being governed by a military junta would affect you life? Bases my experience today in Thailand, there is little impact. Here's how my day went:. Work, work, work. Today was...

The MacLeod Thaimes: March 2014
http://themacleodthaimes.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Our Adventures of moving to Asia, again. Sunday, March 23, 2014. I've posted a lot on the protests here recently. They're still going on, it's dangerous sometimes, blah, blah, blah. Enough said. We had a great weekend in Bangkok! Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Here I am waiting for my beef and guiness pie. Mary enjoyed fish and chips. Monday, March 3, 2014. This is what things looked like at the Asok intersection a few weeks ago. Only one minor incident reported today. Two grenades were thrown outside the ...

The MacLeod Thaimes: April 2014
http://themacleodthaimes.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Our Adventures of moving to Asia, again. Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Australia Part II: Sydney. After spending our first two days in Melbourne we took an overnight train from Melbourne to Sydney. The trip took just under 12 hours and was a similar quality trip to riding Amtrak in the US. The trip was almost entirely in the dark, so there wasn't much to see along the way. For our second day in Sydney we found our way back to the city center by bus and then hopped on a ferry out to Manly. Bondi is south...

Our Adventures of moving to Asia, again. Friday, October 31, 2014. Rain Rain Go Away. It's that time of year in Bangkok when residents start wishing the rain would finally stop falling. Previous years have brought fears of flooding, but thankfully that has not been the case this year. Flash flooding is always a problem during the monsoon season, but widespread floods have not been a significant concern around Bangkok this year. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Our Adventures of moving to Asia, again. Sunday, September 28, 2014. It was our fourth time visiting the Kanchanaburi area. The last being about a year ago. After having lunch and walking on the famous Bridge Over the River Kwai, we followed the River Kwai Noi up into the mountains to our lovely riverside resort: Erawaan Escape. An escape it was. The same kind that fish spa owners use to stock their tanks for fish pedicures live in the swimming pools, some getting very large! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The MacLeod Thaimes: August 2014
http://themacleodthaimes.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Our Adventures of moving to Asia, again. Wednesday, August 20, 2014. This year I am lucky to have 15 wonderful students in my Year 1 classroom. That's fifteen 5 and 6 year olds that are members of the Echidna class. Can you pick out the 11 different countries represented? I definitely work at an international school. Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Happy Thai Mothers Day. After catching an extra hour of sleep this morning, I headed down our street to the train station around 6:30 AM to catch some pictures of t...

Thursday, August 8, 2013. The Fun World of Screen Printing. My first experience with screen printing was in my high school graphic arts class. For one assignment we made a mixed CD, created an insert and screen printed the CD with an image of our choosing. My mix was full of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd and what that had to do with a lion crest is something that has been lost in the sands of time. I can't believe I still have this! What is wrong with his face? The tutorials are really clear ...
