Learners in Bloom: Greek Myths for Kids
http://learnersinbloom.blogspot.com/2015/07/greek-myths-for-kids.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Greek Myths for Kids. The best part of our month-long unit on Ancient Greece was reading Greek myths together. The kids enjoyed the myths so much that it became an integral part of their dramatic play. Here's some of what we read. The Adventures of Odysseys. After learning about the Minoans of Crete from The Story of the World Vol 1. And playing "bull jumping school" all week (vaulting off the furniture). We read aloud the Hero and the Minotaur. Persephone and the Pomegranate.
Learners in Bloom: Molas craft {South America unit}
http://learnersinbloom.blogspot.com/2015/07/molas-craft-south-america-unit.html
Friday, July 17, 2015. Molas craft {South America unit}. In our two-week unit on South America and Mesoamerica, we read a lot of traditional folktales from those regions and made crafts inspired by tradition handiwork from different countries. The molas (blouses) of the Kuna women are just gorgeous, and the girls enjoyed making their own versions out of paper. L chose to read Papagayo. By Gerald McDermott (a folktale from the Amazon rainforest). Here paper mola featured a parrot:. Labels: crafts for kids.
Learners in Bloom: Read Aloud Books for Ages 2-5
http://learnersinbloom.blogspot.com/2015/01/read-aloud-books-for-ages-2-5.html
Saturday, January 3, 2015. Read Aloud Books for Ages 2-5. I've always enjoyed reading aloud to my children. When they were young, our reading sessions were more about spending quality time with my little ones and instilling a love of books in them. Recently, I feel like the kids have not just been passively listening to the stories, but actually living them. They played Aslan versus The White Witch (from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Read Aloud Books - 2012 (twins were 2.5-3.5). The Story of Doc...
Learners in Bloom: Writing Prompt: Food Chain
http://learnersinbloom.blogspot.com/2015/06/writing-prompt-food-chain.html
Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Writing Prompt: Food Chain. Lately I've been giving the girls (age 5.5) writing prompts and letting them get creative with their writing. This is one area in homeschooling where we stray from classical education, which believes that children in the Grammar stage should only do copywork and dictation for writing until they have mastered grammar/spelling. My girls absolutely love making up their own stories and are so proud of their creations. Here is what L came up with. 160; I want...
Learners in Bloom: Making Purple Dye {Phoenicians, SOTW Chapter 15}
http://learnersinbloom.blogspot.com/2015/06/making-purple-dye-phoenicians-sotw.html
Saturday, June 6, 2015. Making Purple Dye {Phoenicians, SOTW Chapter 15}. We studied the Phoenician traders last week in Story of the World. The Phoenicians were well known for glass blowing and purple dye (made from boiling snail shells). For our project, the kids (twins age 5.5, little brother age 3.5) made their own purple dye. Much to E's relief, no snails were harmed in the process. I put some blueberries and raspberries in a sealed plastic bag, and the kids took turns squashing them. No spam, please.

Homeschooling in Ecuador: July 2014
http://celosiaschool.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
First grade. I think! RA Gudino - Aspiring Writer. Tuesday, July 15, 2014. We have a schoolroom! My mother and father came to visit for a wonderful month, and while I was busy with kid stuff, my mom organized my new shelves and learning materials in what used to be our laundry/storage area made into a room with a bookshelf wall. The last step is to hang a curtain to keep visiting kids out of the fragile things. What are we up to? Sneaking in some pre-writing activities. Music, Art, and Language. Book Clu...
Homeschooling in Ecuador: March 2015
http://celosiaschool.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
First grade. I think! RA Gudino - Aspiring Writer. Thursday, March 5, 2015. Raccoon and I have 46 school days left to complete our first 180 days of homeschool. Since January we have been doing more relaxed schooling, and it is working well for us, except that now I'm staring the end of the school year in the face and I feel like we haven't done enough. So I hopped online to find a K assessment to see how he measures up. 2) Georgia has a 179 page kindergarten assessment in 7 subject areas. The other ques...

http://celosiaschool.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
First grade. I think! RA Gudino - Aspiring Writer. Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Raccoon is more of a global learning than sequential, so lately I present the whole alphabet to him instead of going letter by letter like I was before. He seems to be retaining more and wrote this on my whiteboard this morning. Posted by R.A.Gudino. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). First grade. I think! RA Gudino - Aspiring Writer. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Book Review: Overcoming Dyslexia. At the end of a book like this, the question I always come to is, "Would I recommend this book? And if so, to whom? If you want to find out what dyslexia is and what to do about it, then yes. If you're looking for encouragement as a homeschooling parent of a child with dyslexia, not so much. While a parent should not become her child’s primary teacher. Later, she shares her low opinion of public s...
