I started this blog after I was diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis, or bone deterioration from a lack of blood supply, in my hips and shoulder. It's been a humbling experience, which sent my mind running in all sorts of directions after my body was forced to remain quite still. Take a leisurely swim through my collection of thoughts or dive right into MY STORY.

Learning 2 Walk Again: Never Once

http://www.learning2walkagain.blogspot.com/2012/08/never-once.html

For the first Sunday in months, I walked into church without an aide. No wheelchair. No crutches. No walker. No cane. I thought back to recent weeks when my husband rolled me into the building, usually with my 3-year-old on one side of my lap, and my 17-month-old on the other. My 11-year-old would walk close by, carrying the bags for the little ones. I realized that this was the start of something great. A re-birth of sorts. That morning, Pastor Stu Hodges started a new series called, “ Bold. If you&#821...

Learning 2 Walk Again: The Middle School Blues

http://www.learning2walkagain.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-middle-school-blues.html

The Middle School Blues. He's growing up. My oldest son, who turns 12 tomorrow, is now a middle school student. I don't know why his first day of middle school affected me so much, but I really shouldn't be surprised that it did. Just seven short years ago, he was starting Kindergarten. He was just a tiny little guy with no clue about what school was or why he needed to attend. His book bag was half his weight and his shoes were always untied. He was shy. He asked a lot. He'll have just as many years to ...

Learning 2 Walk Again: December 2013

http://www.learning2walkagain.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

A Fragile Body, A Tough Mind. I got great news today. The doctor seems to think that my right hip is actually improving. From my X-rays, he commented that there are signs of revascularization, meaning that the circulation has been restored and the bone is being revitalized. That was the hopeful outcome of having core decompression surgery in the early part of 2012. The nurse told me that they don't usually do the injections "on the fly" like that, but the doctor insisted. When she was helping me to p...

Learning 2 Walk Again: The Bow in Her Hair

http://www.learning2walkagain.blogspot.com/2014/11/the-bow-in-her-hair.html

The Bow in Her Hair. At a young age, bows made me cringe. Especially pink bows. They were so girly. More girly than I ever wanted to be. More than twenty years later, the good Lord decided to teach me lesson. He gave me a daughter. The time came to find out the gender. I laid on the table as the ultrasound tech slapped thick, cold goo on my belly and rubbed it around with a device as images of our baby appeared on a screen. She said as my husband and I smiled at the expected outcome. Not long before she ...

A Mother's Hip Story: First Communion

http://amothershipstory.blogspot.com/2015/04/first-communion.html

A Mother's Hip Story. Friday, April 17, 2015. Emma made her First Communion on Saturday April 11. 2015. She told me how excited she was but nervous too. It was a beautiful weather too. We scheduled her pictures at 1130am even though the mass didn't start until 1pm. But it is nice to have a good seat so I could see her. After pictures we just went over to church to save our spot. Brady served at the mass too. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Edgar Nicholas 12/5/2010 7lbs.1oz. I am a stay at home mother...

Life with Small Fiber Polyneuropathy, EDS Type III, POTS, Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome, and Wilson's Disease. Thursday, January 29, 2015. As I mentioned in my previous post. My mito specialist wanted to check for mitochondrial DNA depletion.well, those results are back. And guess what- -the results do show that I have a mtDNA depletion! Speaking of whole exome sequencing, it looks like the test will be started next week! I also have follow-ups with my GI specialist and Cardiology, so it will be a...

Life with Small Fiber Polyneuropathy, EDS Type III, POTS, Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome, and Wilson's Disease. Thursday, November 20, 2014. Good news and bad news. We got the CT scan results yesterday! The images showed that I had something called Buried Bumper Syndrome (a rare complication with feeding tubes).basically, the balloon on the j-tube (which is inflated with 1 ml of water to hold it in place) got stuck in my abdominal muscle. :-O No wonder I am dealing with pain and spasms! Please pray...

A Mother's Hip Story: March 2015

http://amothershipstory.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

A Mother's Hip Story. Tuesday, March 24, 2015. The colors are bright and cheerful. The buttons make it easy to nurse in. It is a high low top so I like it with my yoga capris. It just makes me feel good! I decided last week to go back and see if I could find anything else. And I came across 3 more different colors of button down, lightweight high low tops. Just loving them all! They are modest and yet what I need that fits where I am at currently. Thursday, March 12, 2015. What's Been Going On. Subscribe...

A Mother's Hip Story: February 2013

http://amothershipstory.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

A Mother's Hip Story. Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Father began to read. And I just began to shake and felt the tears. But towards the end two huge gusts of wind came and I knew the Holy Spirit was present as was my angel baby that I now feel was a boy. I couldn't help but smile as I knew. It was powerful for me. My angel baby knew that this was the peace I needed. A mother's heart loves all her blessings from God- -their children, whether here on earth or in Heaven. I love you Michael Sophia. As much as ...

Life with Small Fiber Polyneuropathy, EDS Type III, POTS, Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome, and Wilson's Disease. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Last week, I received my sleep study and EEG results! My sleep dr. wants me to go back to the sleep lab. He put in an order for CPAP settings to be calibrated and titrated to see if I can tolerate it better. If not, he mentioned again that we may need to switch to BiPAP. This 4th sleep study is scheduled for next Thursday, July 2nd. Thank you for checking in! Anywa...

Life with Small Fiber Polyneuropathy, EDS Type III, POTS, Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome, and Wilson's Disease. Thursday, June 11, 2015. Oh what a crazy past two weeks it's been. Anyways, back to the story.we had all our plans made- -lodging, airfare, and the scheduled June 23rd appointment with my mito specialist. The clinic coordinator told us the appt. would need to be postponed. Talk about stressful! True, we have to change our flights and lodging, but it could have been a lot worse! Wednesday,...

Life with Small Fiber Polyneuropathy, EDS Type III, POTS, Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome, and Wilson's Disease. Monday, August 10, 2015. More tests to be done. Today, I saw my GI specialist. It wasn't very good news. I mentioned in my previous post. It's hard to believe that my doctors are looking into yet another rare genetic disease to add to my long list, but these lyrics from one of my favorite songs by Michael W. Smith keep coming to mind:. Even what the enemy means for evil. I know that whate...

Learning 2 Walk Again

I've Learned to Walk Again. I've been a quiet blogger lately. And that's not a coincidence. However, mixed and mingled in with posts about potential health risks were personal glimpses into my little, itty, bitty, minute, often insignificant-seeming life. I talked about my son's first day of middle school. I wrote about my faith. On my 35th birthday last April, I wrote about my birth mother's diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. Most who read this blog are strangers. But one in particular was not. My most t...
