10 Reasons Why Being Blind is Awesome – Learning Blindness
https://learningblindness.wordpress.com/2015/05/09/10-reasons-why-being-blind-is-awesome
Tales of negotiating disability and femininity. May 9, 2015. 10 Reasons Why Being Blind is Awesome. I feel that there are some lesser known benefits to being blind that need to be shared. They may seem a tad insignificant in the face of, um, being blind but hey, I say take what you can get. 1: It’s a massive saving. 2: You are never designated driver. 3: People are only too willing to serve you. 4: You never have to sign up to help out. 5: You are credited with sage-like wisdom. 8: You have a sure-fire e...

Tales of negotiating disability and femininity. July 28, 2015. 10 Reasons Why Being Disabled Sucks: A Guest Post by Dawn Pilatowitz. This is my friend, Dawn’s response to 10 Reasons Why Being Blind Sucks. I love it because its unashamedly real and also because she is awesome…prepare to be challenged…. This is going to be very different from my usual posts, which are where I focus on all the positives in my life. This is a bit of a rant. Be warned. Going to the toilet can be embarrasing. One of my biggest...
Tales of a Guide Dog Owner – Learning Blindness
https://learningblindness.wordpress.com/2015/02/10/tales-of-a-guide-dog-owner
Tales of negotiating disability and femininity. February 10, 2015. Tales of a Guide Dog Owner. What I usually get instead is, Aargh a dog, a dog! Mommy, why is there a dog in the shop! The poor flustered mother in question usually resorts to one of two options. Option one is, Sssh! Detect low, low prices? By far, the more worrying, annoying and hilarious episodes I’ve experienced on my travels with my dogs have involved adults. Here are my greatest hits:. Stranger: Aw, is that a blind dog? This can go on...
Living Vulnerably – Learning Blindness
https://learningblindness.wordpress.com/2015/04/20/living-vulnerably
Tales of negotiating disability and femininity. April 20, 2015. Nobody likes asking for help. Needing help means being vulnerable and we like others to see us as self-assured and confident. Particularly as women, we are constantly being told that we have to do it all, have it all, be it all no wonder we’re all so exhausted! How often have I stood on a train and heard this hushed conversation:. No, I don’t think so. How does she know where to get off? I don’t know, must we tell her? I don’t know…. Learnin...
10 Reasons Why Being Blind Sucks – Learning Blindness
https://learningblindness.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/10-reasons-why-being-blind-sucks
Tales of negotiating disability and femininity. July 20, 2015. 10 Reasons Why Being Blind Sucks. So, yes, this is in fact the post to counterbalance the previous one. Here are some of the lesser known reasons, in my humble opinion, why being blind sucks. 1: Going to work with toothpaste on your shirt. 2: Leaving people hanging. 3: Conversing with a pillar/potted plant/thin air. 4: Being misconstrued as really drunk. This has a lot to do with the talking to plants thing…. This one’s pretty specific I feel.
