Learning to Costume: December 2013

http://www.learningtocostume.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 22, 2013. My absolute favorite part of this dress is actually the back. It makes me think of later Victorian styles. Sunday, December 1, 2013. I used Simplicity 9764. It seems to be out of print, but its still fairly recent enough that you can find fairly priced copies on ebay or etsy. I only made view A, which is the actual hoop. I didnt have time to make the petticoat. 160;Heres what mine looks like:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Learning to Costume: a sewing room of my very own

http://www.learningtocostume.blogspot.com/2014/10/a-sewing-room-of-my-very-own.html

Friday, October 17, 2014. A sewing room of my very own. In very exciting news, my husband and I recently purchased our very first home (yay! We had outgrown our one bedroom apartment a while ago, and had started the official house hunt last spring. We made an agreement that he would take over the basement as his work space of any house we did buy, and lucky for him (and me) the basement of our new home is the full length and width of the house. So he has plenty of room. Very very very excited about this!

Learning to Costume: November 2013

http://www.learningtocostume.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 25, 2013. Why I haven't seen sunlight in weeks. I've (just barely) finished three dresses, and some supporting undergarments all in time for their various events. I'll do write ups later for each outfit, but I figured I would share the photos of the gowns before they are packed away in the closet. The 1857 Day Dress:. My first ever dress of this era. Deceptively simply looking. Took much longer than anticipated and way more hand sewing than I would have imagined. View my complete profile.

Learning to Costume: December 2014

http://www.learningtocostume.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Yet another project made from out of print patterns. These just very recently went out of print, and you can still snag them for about $5 each. I *highly* encourage anyone that even thinks they might one day remotely consider making this dress to get them. I'll start with the outer layer of the costume (it's part I like best). It was a fun gown to wear, and I can see the allure of making more after spending a day in one. Look at those tidy, tiny stitches! EASE OF INSTRUCTIONS...

Rockford Peach Uniform | In the Long Run

On the Sewing Table. In the Long Run. May 16, 2015. Posted by quincy134 under rockford peach. 8216;s influence, I recently made a Rockford Peach Uniform based on those worn in the movie A League of Their Own. These uniforms are so cute, and Maggie told me there was a pattern available that went together easily. When I floated the idea of us dressing up together at the next Awesome Con DC. A plan was made. Maggie has finished her costume already, and posted about it here. By Muffin Head Patterns. On Etsy&...

Sunday, August 30, 2015. Regency Pelerine - August HSM Challenge 'Heirlooms and Heritage'. First, the finished challenge, a Regency Pelerine! Regency Pelerine by TheLadyDetalle. I've long been intrigued by the various outerwear from the late 18th through the late 19th centuries: I've seen them called cloaks, capes, mantles, mantlets, pelerines, fichus or fichus of something, hooded capes, and etc. I've often wondered what is the difference between mantle and mantelet? Is the cloak the same as a cape?

Thursday, June 25, 2015. My good friend madamemodiste. S Annual Victorian Party was this past weekend! She graciously invites friends and costumers to her place every year for a day of food, laughter and fun under a tent in her backyard, in lovely summer fashion! Costumes from 1800-1900 or thereabouts are welcomed. I try to make this one every year if I can, because she is always such a gracious hostess and the fun, oh the fun, despite the heat and humidity, we ALWAYS have a fantastic time! Lots of delic...

Friday, August 7, 2015. White silk modern hat and black hooded cape progress. I've been planning a white on white and cream hat that I always intended to make last year, but I was too busy, never could find the time, but I told myself I would still make my fun white hat in 2015! I had previously covered a small straw hat (doll's hat probably) with some thick smooth silk and today I finished the underneath, and basically started with this:. Silk covered straw hat - top. Silk covered straw hat - bottom.
