Learn Teach Lead – Mathematics

http://learnteachlead.ca/mathematics

The math brain myth. Nicola Bailey-Bennett laughs when she thinks about how her career unfolded. She says she never thought she would end up teaching Grade 8 math. Bailey-Bennett originally set out to be an accountant, but didn’t realize how comfortable she’d have to be with numbers. While in university – in her home country, Jamaica – she needed to pass a statistics class in her first year. She failed the course three times. Unknowingly, she had closed her mind to the subject. Opening your mind to the s...

Learn Teaching - Teach Learning | This blog provides research, resources, experiences and strategies for enhancing quality teaching

Learn Teaching – Teach Learning. This blog provides research, resources, experiences and strategies for enhancing quality teaching. I was shocked to find how teachers (and practicing teachers) spoke about their students. The teachers used phrases such as ‘the autistic one’, ‘the dumb one’, ‘the wheelchair’. These phrases provide negative connotations and see the child’s disability first rather than acknowledging the child for their individuality. How can it be bias limited from your pedagogy of teaching?

Learning to Teach in Middle School

Learning to Teach in Middle School. Wednesday, January 21, 2009. A Time Commitment to Become Certified To Teach. Tuesday, December 2, 2008. Last week in our dyad, Chris and I graded papers. Since he and I both had worked with a particular set of sisters before, we were well aware when we came across their perfect homework exercises there was no way either sister did the work. Chris and I talked with the teacher, but still questioned, what do you do when you know the homework was completed by a parent?
