Bio and Contact Info. The Library: An Incomplete Reading List. Baking bread with the Renaissance Artisan. Thursday, June 27, 2013. Learning Curves and the State of the Project: I know now why apprentices are a Thing. Part One: History and Hubris. 8220; History celebrates the battlefields whereon we meet our death, but scorns to speak of the plowed fields whereby we thrive; it knows the names of kings’ bastards but cannot tell us the origin of wheat. That is the way of human folly. Now, I don’t know...

Bio and Contact Info. The Library: An Incomplete Reading List. Baking bread with the Renaissance Artisan. Saturday, January 25, 2014. A Joiner's Toolbox: The Axes of Evil? The TSA doesn't tend to like me very much. You see, I like to fly to the Midwest or South and bring back loads of rusty things that make metal detectors go "BEEP! It's not my fault that all the good old tools, all the greatest houses of rust and dust really, are in the middle and southern reaches of our country. The axes of evil? The p...

Bio and Contact Info. The Library: An Incomplete Reading List. Baking bread with the Renaissance Artisan. Sunday, September 22, 2013. A Joiner's Toolbox: The Hand Plane. If this sometimes feels like a woodworking blog, I apologize. It's not intended that way; it's just that so much of the technology of the 16th century revolved around items made from wood or iron. Often both. Some details can be found in period sources:. Seventeenth Century tool kit. A small selection from my toolbox. The primary tool in...
Försök!: Almbåge, nockar
http://olashantverk.blogspot.com/2012/06/almbage-nockar.html

Yale Center for British Art,. I can't help noticing these things. It's a curse. It's important to note that in this time period, belts weren't for holding your pants up. And before you ask: Yes, methods for disrobing and going to the bathroom are a common topic of conversation for male reenactors. As Hollywood (and your local...
Försök!: december 2011
http://olashantverk.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Fredag 2 december 2011.

Meanderings through the 15th century. Mary Rose Leather Bottle 81A2218. February 1, 2012. Late 15th Century White Hood or Coif – Transition Period / War of the Roses. I’ve been pondering this hood for the past couple of years and even made several different patterns for it. Frustratingly, none of them ever looked quite like those depicted in illustrations. The explanation often given for this problem is, it’s the artist’s conception, it didn’t/couldn’t really look like that . Artwork in the 15. This brin...

During the Summer of 2011, my wife, son and daughter and I went to Missouri to visit my wife's side of the family - We ended up making arrangements to stay with her grandparents; Howard and Mary-Lou. Howard, being the leather-craft enthusiast that he is, was delighted that somebody from my generation showed an interest in this tapering skill-set. That night after everyone had gone to bed, he took me to his workshop which was downstairs in the drafty yet cozy basement of their 50 year old home. After answ...
