A Scratch Behind the Ears (and other nice things): June 2013
http://ascratchbehindtheears.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 30, 2013. My coworkers most days are 4 footed furry ones. Lady and Katie never let me go to work alone. Every morning, we have the same routine. I brew my coffee, whip up a protein smoothie in the Ninja, and then announce "Okay girls, time to go to work! Then we all head to the office downstairs. They stay with me all day, leaving only when I need to go upstairs for a coffee refill or a bite of lunch. It's so cute how they follow me. And she says "Meow! But I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Feline Friday: Do cats smile? | Music and Cats

Feline Friday: Do cats smile? October 20, 2006. Everyone knows that dogs smile; there’s no mistaking their happy, tongue-lolling grins. But do cats smile? Before Sasha came to live with us, I might have argued that they don’t. But I’d be willing to bet that’s a smile on Sasha’s face. And who can blame him? A soft, just-washed blanket folded over a warm radiator is about the perfect spot for a McKitten on a chilly fall evening. And the Carnival of the Cats (hosted by Laurence Simon’s Catcall. That’s...

A Scratch Behind the Ears (and other nice things): April 2013
http://ascratchbehindtheears.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 12, 2013. April 12, 2013. I am sorry to share with all of Lucky's friends the sad and shocking news that he passed away this evening. He has been the picture of health and wellbeing - we walked 3 miles last night! And then without warning, this afternoon at around 5:15 pm he suddenly became ill. He wasn't acting like himself - oddly lethargic and he couldn't get up from the place where he'd been napping peacefully all afternoon. We took him to the vet, and by 8 pm he was gone. Of white peli...

Sunday, February 17, 2013. I Feel Like A Superhero! Those of you born after say, 1980, and those more technologically gifted than myself will likely find this incredibly amusing, but I have just CREATED MY VERY FIRST BLOGGER SLIDESHOW! It only took about two years to tackle, and a larger part of this day than I am willing to admit, but I did it! Or, well.I think I did. Maybe I better not start dancing on the table until after I hit "Publish" and check it out. Thursday, February 14, 2013. Will You Be Mine?

Thursday, January 17, 2013. Life With An Omnivore. I ask, does this look like food to you? Very good, that is the correct answer! Because it's NOT food. It's a pipe cleaner. This distinction is lost on our little scoundrel Katie, who insists on testing anything found on the floor for edibility. Thus I return to this blog in much the same way I left it, worrying about Katie having consumed something not meant to be consumed. And as far as two of the three dogs are concerned, one of the best treats ever?

Thursday, July 4, 2013. Happy 4th of July! Some fascinating Independence Day trivia from my friend Trip, who posted this on Facebook today. Check this out. Heres something interesting for you to share about this date in history: In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Did you know this?

Story of a garden, a gardener and a way of life. Thursday, September 29, 2005. Have been cutting up the blouses bit by bit whenever I have a spare moment. What was once a hideous dress is now beautiful pieces of fabric. I am about one third of the way through. I have done the most fancy ones first and now getting to the stage of "why did I want this one? Or "should I or shouldn't I cut this up? Posted by Googs @ 6:59 PM. Sunday, September 25, 2005. A Scratch Behind the Ears (and other nice things): Lunchtime Bear Drama
http://ascratchbehindtheears.blogspot.com/2014/03/lunchtime-bear-drama.html
Saturday, March 15, 2014. The bears are awake, and hungry! At one point he seemed startled by the moon birdhouse. I watched as he huffed at it, then took a cautious sniff, before proceeding to snack on the seed atop the overturned planter. No Mr Bear, you are not. Invited to the 1 pm WebEx meeting! Is something going on? When I slammed my office door shut. Sorry Katie. I went back inside and checked Lady. I didn't have any tricks up my sleeve for handling "dog nosebleeds," so was immensely relieved t...

Saturday, March 2, 2013. Winter has finally arrived in western North Carolina. With 9 days above 60 degrees in December, and 7 in January (temps hit 70 degrees both months as well), we'd been sailing through Winter 2012-13 with mittens gathering dust in the basket. But Old Man Winter apparently woke up and "Whoa! It's almost spring, I'd better get to work! Alongside the bank, a group of giggling ice spirits clustered together.I could swear I heard them giggle. There is a time for everything,. This blog i...
