http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/p/my-leadville-house-project.html
Welcome to My HO Model Railroad Blog. My Leadville House Project. This post is about my son,. Doug died in 2001 at the young age of 38 and I have included his Diner and now his home will be on my layout in his memory, he was a great son. Doug was very close to our daughter Susan, Susan died in 1991 during a robbery. She was a night manager and refused to give her assailant the company's money and it cost her her life. Doug struggled with the death of his sister for ten years and finally gave in. Both kit...

My Model Railroad: Roundhouse Project Overhaul
http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/p/roundhouse-project.html
Welcome to My HO Model Railroad Blog. This project is made from two Korber #104 three stall Roundhouse Kits. They are long out of production but I still occasionally see them listed on E-Bay. Korber Kits turn out very nice, they have a very realistic appearance upon completion. If you use AC to assemble them they are also extremely durable. I originally built the roundhouse from two Korber #104 Kits in 1991. Each Korber Kit had three 15" stalls that equal 108' in. They were too short. The Roundhouse rest...

My Model Railroad: 135 foot Turntable Project
http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/p/135-foot-turntable-project.html
Welcome to My HO Model Railroad Blog. 135 foot Turntable Project. I originally scratch built a 120' turntable using the Bakersfield Turntable as the prototype in 1991. The October 1989 issue of Model Railroader Magazine had the plans for building the bridge superstructure. The article was titled ". The Santa Fe's 120 foot through truss turntable". It served me well but as with all my scratch built mechanical devices it had some minor problems. This is my scratch built 120' Turntable. This is a view of my...

My Model Railroad: Sliver Spur Mine Project
http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/p/page-10.html
Welcome to My HO Model Railroad Blog. Sliver Spur Mine Project. I have decided that the Silver Spur Mine will be my Birthday present. It is a Campbell Kit that I purchased back in the mid 1990s. It's been sitting on the shelf with many other kits to be assembled on a "Rainy Day". It seldom rains in Bakersfield so they just sit on the shelf. The picture below is well into the first building. It shows the Shaft House and conveyer structure. The Campbell instructions are very good but again as usual...The s...

My Model Railroad: July 22, 2015 Birthday Present To Myself
http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/2015/07/july-22-2015-birthday-present-to-myself.html
Welcome to My HO Model Railroad Blog. July 22, 2015 Birthday Present To Myself. My birthday is just around the corner so I bought myself a present, a pair of clunker Hobbytown of Boston E7s to restore. These are probably the worst looking things I've ever purchased. Taking them out of the mailer they were packed better than anything I've bought o f. Out that by pouring the Denature d Alcoh ol through a filter to remove the paint debris it can be reused. The picture above shows the new headlight housing i...

My Model Railroad: Doug's Diner
http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/p/dougs-diner.html
Welcome to My HO Model Railroad Blog. I bought a few Craftsman Kits over a period of time in the early to mid 1990s. I assembled a #57 Campbell Railroad Station Kit early on, the rest have been on the shelf until a rainy day. Well it seldom rains in Bakersfield so I finally decided to do it to it even without the rain. The old Babe's Diner will be remodeled and installed across the road from my railroad station as a cafe. Doug got the new building for his Diner and Susie is getting a completely remod...

My Model Railroad: Susie's Cafe
http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/p/susies-cafe_24.html
Welcome to My HO Model Railroad Blog. This project is about the Master Creations Babe's Diner that I built 20 years ago. The picture above is from the BTS Site the way they intended the kit to be built. My version came out very close to their specs. The Diner sat near the top of my mountain just off the highway into Susanville for ten years. I replaced all of the figures inside, added new tables and chairs. I repainted the entire interior and made a new sign over the door. Signs can easily be seen also.

My Model Railroad: Southern Pacific 3805 Project
http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/p/page-13.html
Welcome to My HO Model Railroad Blog. Southern Pacific 3805 Project. If you read my About Me you know where I grew up. I have a love for Southern Pacific Articulated Steam Locomotives. The Southern Pacific had the twelve AC-9s built specifically for the El Paso to Tucumcari Route. Because there were no tunnels on that route the Cab Forward type locomotive was not needed. My first Kitbash AC-9 project started with a Rivarossi AC-10 Cab Forward number 4272 purchased off E-Bay for around $50. I purchased se...
