Lee Odishow - Broomhill National Sculpture Prize: The Figure

http://leeodishow.blogspot.com/2011/03/figure.html

Once I had done some quick sketches, I had a feel for the piece, I set to work on the plaster 'Model'. This was to be the object that I would use to make my moulds. The image below shows the work in Progress . I began with an armature made of fencing wire, and clothed this in scrim and plaster. If you would like to contact me you can drop me an e-mail:. There was an error in this gadget. Finalist in the Broomhill National Sculpture Prize 2011. Exibiting this Summer at the Broomhill Sculpture Park.

Lee Odishow - Broomhill National Sculpture Prize: Mould Making and Casting

http://leeodishow.blogspot.com/2011/03/mould-making-and-casting.html

Mould Making and Casting. Use many types of mould in my art practice. I am accustomed to using CO 2. Sand while Iron casting. To make CO 2. Sand, ordinary kiln dried builder's sand is mixed with sodium silicate (aka liquid glass), this mix is rammed into your cope and drag (mould box) and 'gassed' with CO. Reacts with the sodium silicate and makes the sand very hard. Above: These are the finished moulds, I had piled stone and blocks on top of them to stop the weight of the iron pushing off the lids.

Lee Odishow - Broomhill National Sculpture Prize: Face (early March)

http://leeodishow.blogspot.com/2011/03/face-early-march.html

These images show the comparison between the un-polished and polished surface of the face mask. to polish the bronze I use differing grades of wet and dry paper finishing with ordinary cartridge paper, with a final buff with the buffing wheel. This is the cold patination chemical I have used to patinate the bronze. This patina, as it suggests, is applied to cold bronze. If you would like to contact me you can drop me an e-mail:. Lee Odishow - Broomhill National Sculpture Prize: Iron

http://leeodishow.blogspot.com/2011/03/iron.html

The tough job of breaking open the sand mould to, hopefully, reveal your prize. This is the back half of the sculpture, and hopefully gives you all an idea of scale. This side poured well and as expected, but as i mentioned previously the front half was in two bits. If you would like to contact me you can drop me an e-mail:. There was an error in this gadget. Finalist in the Broomhill National Sculpture Prize 2011. Exibiting this Summer at the Broomhill Sculpture Park. Broomhill National Sculpture Prize.

Lee Odishow - Broomhill National Sculpture Prize: From the start..

http://leeodishow.blogspot.com/2011/03/from-start.html

I suppose I had better start from the beginning. Last year i had the opportunity to attend the International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art, in Kidwelly, Wales. This conference was a chance to spend 4 days working on cast iron sculpture. In the week leading up to the conference, I was interseted in working on a figurative piece that I could take with me and work on. If you would like to contact me you can drop me an e-mail:. BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2: Making the Base

http://leeodishowsculpture.blogspot.com/2011/04/making-base.html

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2. I want to make the base so that it matches the aesthetics of the face porthole. I had a look around the workshop and found some left over tread plate. This piece of plate was long enough but slightly too small in width, so using the plasma cutter and welder I was able to re-adjust the dimensions to accommodate the shape I needed.(below is the plate roughly being cut to size.). 16 December 2011 at 19:42. Awesome work is done by you using plasma cutter. My Broomhill Blog Part 1.

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2: Rivetting Copper

http://leeodishowsculpture.blogspot.com/2011/04/rivetting-copper.html

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2. The important thing to me about applying the copper is that I do not want to be able to see the rivets after, so I have devised a plan; each layer of copper should hide the rivets from the previous layer. There are to be three rivetts in total, so you can see above the first piece of copper rivetted in place, with the second sheet hiding the first rivet. Hopefully the effect of the folded copper gives the impression that there is a wrapped figure within the sculpture.

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2: Base (continued)

http://leeodishowsculpture.blogspot.com/2011/04/base-continued.html

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2. Above: These images show how the base detail works against the body detail. The images below show how I have attached the bolts to the base, the holes are counter sunk on the under side to accomodate the welds. Above: This is one of the 16 bolts that are in the base; 12 of the bolts are welded in place and are only for aesthetics; the four that are left will be used to fix the sculpture to the plinth. Finished base, treated and ready to weld to the sculpture.

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2. Broomhill NSP Blog Part 2. Welcome to the second part of my blog. I may as well get straight to it, it's the start of April and time to weld the two halves of my sculpture together. I have chosen to do this by welding a metal 'tie' between the the two internal frames. Above: Here you can see how I have welded the frames together and painted the steel tie with red oxide to protect the frame from rust. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Broomhill Blog Part 1.

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2: Studio Shots (Thurs 5th May)

http://leeodishowsculpture.blogspot.com/2011/04/studio-shots-thurs-5th-may.html

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2. Studio Shots (Thurs 5th May). I am after some decent images of my finished sculpture to use in postcards. Today I took my sculpture into the photography department of the college and was helped by John (photography technician) to get some great studio shots. I needed to get the sculpture in the studio so I used the wheely trolly and the engine hoist. To view more of my Broomhill blog click on the 'Older Posts' link below. BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2: Seam line time

http://leeodishowsculpture.blogspot.com/2011/04/seam-line-time.html

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2. Earlier on, I was toying with the idea of painting the seam to give the impression of an interior. The seam has been prepared for painting, masking tape will give me a clean line all along the seam. I have left approx 5mm on each side of the seam and I will paint it with red Hammerite. BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2. Publicity Photos (Early April). Here are some of the publicity photos of me and my sculpture. As I work as part of Coleg Sir Gar they were willing to send a photographer to take my picture for use in the local newspapers. Amanda R (marketing officer) was also asked if she could write an article for me to accompany my images. Http:/ www.tenby-today.co.uk/News.cfm? BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2: April 18th - 21st

http://leeodishowsculpture.blogspot.com/2011/04/april-18th-21st.html

BROOMHILL BLOG PART 2. April 18th - 21st. O ne of the things I want to tackle this week is fixing the face into place once and for all. To secure the face it needs to be bolted to the body. The problem I have is that I can not get into the body to tighten the nuts to the bolts. Now to the side detail. With the face fixed in place I can finally finish off the sculpture, with the last thing being the need to close up the side hole. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Broomhill Blog Part 1.
