A space to share our travel experiences with family and friends. Saturday, April 28, 2012. Birthdays are a BIG deal in Peru. It was Milka's birthday yesterday. Time to celebrate and it starts early! We woke them up alright. singing Happy Birthday in English and Spanish, but we weren't the only ones awake at that time to wish the birthday girl Happy Birthday - her mum also rang her. We didn't bother with cake-eating at that hour, thankfully, but did it all again in the morning. Milka did it in style!

A space to share our travel experiences with family and friends. Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Another day in Lima . and another parade! Today is a public holiday for Santa Rosa de Lima. So another parade - thousands of people in the plaza, music, bands and lots of police presence. Rosa is the patron saint of the police force in Peru. We followed one group along the mall to the plaza - included a small dance troupe. Also visited the San Francisco Museum and Catacombs - sooo many bones! Sent from my iPod.

What a day - first the blessing of the brewery . oh and the update on that. The extra that was added to the pot was a symbolic 'fox tail' and a porcelain cat with an upright waving paw was purchased for the brewery - for good fortune. This venture should really do well! Zac, Lex . and Duncan managed to make another brew before going to the bar to connect the keg. We will be back!

It's the journey, not the destination. Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Last night in Santiago and we once again stayed out after dark. Not being exhausted from walking helps. The streets were so alive, and even the plaza outside the cathedral was buzzing. After 11pm, and people still arriving and sitting around. Earlier in the evening we sat near an impromptu jam session. Spanish bag pipes and percussion box. Great sound. Long distance trains terminate some distance out of the city centre. Next challenge! Big b...

It's the journey, not the destination. Friday, December 21, 2012. Today I walked 6km carrying 6kg. Yeah! I still have a long way to go to be able to carry my 6-7kg pack further, or anywhere near our planned daily average of 25km. But I will get there. Poco a poco. And for those locals who have been following our daily early AM training, yes, I have progressed from a pillow in my pack to real clothes, and gradually increasing the weight, 4kg, back down to 3kg, then 4.3kg, and now 6.3kg.

It's the journey, not the destination. Monday, June 17, 2013. First day here we did a Free Sofia Tour- an excellent introduction to this city and its fascinating history. Deni, our guide has a passion for history, and it shows. Best tour ever! Since that tour, we have revisited several of the sites we were introduced to. Today we went to the Archaeological Museum. So many relics found in this city, and across Bulgaria, dating back more than 1600 years BC. Incredible. But we do have a language problem!

Knew it was going to be tough when the first 11km took us over 3 hours to do. Still had two thirds of the journey to go. Unlike the camino to Santiago, marking is haphazard, and difficult to follow. It's the journey, not the destination. Saturday, June 1, 2013. On to Finisterre. Day 4. We made it! We've been to World's End Pub in Edinburgh, and Fin del Mundo in Patagonia, now Finisterre in Spain. Last look at Cee. Stunning garden in Cee. This is Fisterre in the distant, and the lighthouse out on the point. It was a beautiful walk today. Steep up and down to begin with then gradual slopes after that. But so nice to walk near the coast and even better to walk along the beach. Many were sitting quietly...

It's the journey, not the destination. Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Its a sportsfest- spectator style. Just another part of our journey, in the lead up to the biggest active event I've ever participated in . We're having a 'sportsfest', spectator style. And for those who know me, 'spectator' status counts. We were roadside spectators in the Victorian bike race event, the Jayco Classic, on two of the stages. Next week we head over to Adelaide to catch the final days of The Tour Down Under - another bike race.

I know this is hard to believe, being a Scout and all, but Lex told me today would be an easy, downhill most of the way. Mmmmm. Yes there were a few downhill slopes, but for over 4 hours we climbed up and across mountain tops, where only power lines, huge wind turbines, and pilgrims can be found! I have my 'mojo' back! Strange sight waiting for the bus, as backpackers continued to fill the road near where the bus would park. Hoping to be first ones on in case everyone couldn't fit on. Certainly had a few people worried, but we all fitted. just. A 71 seat bus! Chocolate (very thick) con churros. And to buy train tickets to Madri...
