Once settled in the hotel, we go visit the small streets, called Hutongs, where a true neighbourhood life remains. However it is very cold, the date is january 17th! Reaching the Forbidden City, we learn it is already closed (we took our time, settling down at the hotel! On the next morning, breakfast near the hotel, the buildings are somehow sovietic!

Après Hong Kong (et un changement à Guangzhou) nous voici donc à Shanghaï. On a d'abord put admirer, un peu étonnés qu'il en reste encore, les restes des bâtiments de l'époque européenne : Shanghaï a été fondée par les européens ayant besoin de comptoirs en Chine, et n'existait presque pas avant eux (contrairement à Canton à l'histoire bien plus ancienne). De l'autre côté de la rivière, les grattes-ciels proclamant la modernité et la richesse de la ville. La Oriental Pearl tower, symbole de la ville.

We have the visas;. Those were not easy to get. To show ourselves worthy we had to prove why we were in Vietnam we had to show plane reservations, hotel tickets, references from my employer. Et au petit matin on arrive à Beijing. A la gare du Sud, rénovée pour accueillir les trains rapides de Shanghai. il faut dire qu'il y en a plein, des gares, à Beijing. Une fois installés à l'hôtels, on part visiter les petites rues nommées Hutong, où il reste une vraie vie de quartier. Par contre il fait froid, on n'est que le 17 janvier! En arrivant au bord de la Cité Interdite, nous apprenons qu'elle est déjà fermée. (on a mis le temps, pour s'installer à l'hôtel). Un temple dans les Hutongs. Les quart...

Hong Kong - the people. Hong Kong is also about the people who live there. It is a very cosmopolitan large city, with inhabitants from all around the world, quite different from Vietnamese or Chinese cities. There are indeed a lot of people. It often feels crowded, and in this way Hong Kong is part of China! There are neighbourhoods which really feel part of a large European city, like these streets with bars, restaurants, and live music clubs. There even was a miss Philippino in Hong Kong election!
