Technology, Dynamic Programming and Entrepreneurship. Tuesday, June 28, 2005. I am getting ready to roll out a Rails site with one of they guys that I used to work with. You can check out the beta version of the site at: http:/ skillfulstudent.com. It's been a pretty fun process building this site in rails, and it definitely makes me look forward to building other sites. Posted by Beowulf at 4:06 PM. Comments: Post a Comment.

Tim Daly on Lisp. August 6, 2010 jao. Tim Daly, Axiom’s. Lead developer, has a couple of things to say about building large applications in Lisp. And on picking a language. Measure your OODA loop. Observe, orient, decide and act loop] in all the languages you know. See which one cycles fastest. I’d bet that’s your favorite language. I also happen to like the movies he recommends ;-). Posted in Common Lisp. May 25, 2009 jao. As i said, we’re expecting much discussion about Scheme and Lisp, but we’re not r...

Random meanderings on whatever catches my fancy. I’m going to try to keep track of the books I’ve read here, as it might be of interest to others. I have a lot of catching up to do so I think I’ll just stick to the books I actually liked, as opposed to the dreck that I’ve wished to hurl across the room. Onto the first batch of “reviews”. Technology, Dynamic Programming and Entrepreneurship. Wednesday, October 12, 2005. I'm headed to the Startup School. This weekend. In order to save on cost I've decided to split the cost of the room with three complete strangers. Financially it works out that it's a good deal. It turns out that all three of them are from my state, and they live in my area. I was a bit suprised that anyone else from my state would be attending. Funny how things turn out. While downtown doing something else entirely I managed to find myself in a bookshop. One of the few bookshops not belonging to a chain; in fact one that was established in 1908. They had some used books, and I managed to find two that were both interesting and cheap (around $6 each): Pascal User Manual and Report. By Jensen and Wirth, 1974 Springer (alas only the 3rd edition from 1985) and Performance and Evaluation of Lisp Systems. By Richard Gabriel (1985, MIT). Here's a taste from both. Making Asynchr...

Mapping the Collective Unconscious. Thursday, June 28, 2007. Our Unconscious Religion: Fractal Pantheism. Stories like Gulliver's Travels, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, or The Matrix would not be fascinating at all. Many people are probably aware that life goes on on different levels. In superstring theory, after all an attempt to understand the world, they defined ten physical dimensions for describing the world. But why should there be only ten dimensions? Or the Mandelbrot set.

Mapping the Collective Unconscious. Wednesday, August 22, 2007. A Notation for Edinger's Alchemical Operations. I find it handy to have a symbolic notation for alchemical processes. According to The Philsopher's Stone. Dom Pernety first associated processes with signs of the zodiac in the eighteenth century. Alas his twelve alchemical operations are in no way compatible with the seven which Edward F. Edinger. Applied to Jungian Psychology in Anatomy of the Psyche. Turns something into earth.
