After the Quagliata Studio relocated to Mexico City in 1995, Dorothy moved her studio to Emeryville and changed the focus of her work from leaded art glasswork to contemporary fused, painted and laminated architectural elements. The move to the Oakland studio in 2000 allowed for another expansion in work with the purchase of the equipment necessary to fabricate larger projects. Stairs and Paving Stones. A combination of textured handmade glass and clear float glass were used to create this dramatic art glass mural in the lobby of a residential tower. Bands of translucent green and white glass are laminated to either side of clear tempered glass. The illusion of a basket weave pattern is created by light passing through one side to the other. Marvell Semiconductors, Inc. Santa Clara, CA. 9'-0" x 4'-6" x 8". Developed in collaboration with Carducci Associates Landscape Architects for Marvell Technology Group, nine glass and steel water walls create a soothing environment at the center of campus. Paired with a wind sculpture by artist Ned Kahn, the fountains create a dialogue between natural and man-made elements. Architect - Carducci and Associates. Art Consultant - ART. San Francisco, CA. This leaded glass skylight is set at the top of a three story elliptical stairwell. Elliptical walls below the skylight capture prismatic light from the skylight's bevels, jewels and German mouthblown glass. Constructive Musings I and II. San Francisco, CA. Commissioned glass murals consisting of fused glass, acid etched glass, mirrored glass, flashed glass, copper foil and stainless steel. Entirely lit from the front like a mosaic, a variety of glass surfaces impart a quality of luminosity. Los Gatos, CA. 16' x 9' x 10". Inspired by the gardens and rural architecture of Tuscany, the Cascading Glass Wall is a prismatic focal point at the central courtyard of the Netflix Campus. Framed in bronze and stone, the garden wall glass reflects blues, oranges and purples at different time of the day. San Francisco, CA. A vertical row of glass rods travel up this wall sculpture like a string of champagne bubbles in a tall glass flute. Trailing up the stairs and around the mezzanine, a translucent guardrail subtly obscures ones view.
