This led me to my current role at IDATA Resolutions Ltd. I initially formed Backup Strategies Ltd in 1992 which morphed into IDATA Ltd in 2001. The focus since 1992 had been storage data protection with a specialist focus on solution provision and support. In this time I have seen things that no man should see. Small children run away in fear at the very mention of these things. These are things that I intend to elaborate on as we progress. It has been a great ride to date and it just keeps getting faster.

For example, they push that being able to administer backup and archive a single interface is a must have. As we all know, any well designed and well implemented archive system needs little administration if the policies are set correctly. I have seen very few organisations where the backup administrator and archive administrator are shared in a single role.

Today everyone is a generalist, a deliberate move on the part of most as a reaction to the economic times. The problem now though is that the market needs specialist and they aren’t there.
