Let's have words: Buxton
http://letshavewords.blogspot.com/2015/08/buxton.html
Tuesday, 4 August 2015. We alternate host schools, and the festival is attended by a different mix of students/schools each time. Generally there are four schools at each festival with students ranging from prep to G6. Shelley (above left) takes a million photos. Which is grand, because I always forget to take any! This year, Buxton Primary School was our host, and what a host! Each of the five presenters has three sessions. It's lovely to have small groups of such enthusiastic students and teachers.

Let's have words: Books in Homes
http://letshavewords.blogspot.com/2015/08/books-in-homes.html
Friday, 7 August 2015. A few weeks ago, I was at an inner Melbourne school presenting books as part of the Books in Homes program. The program gives books to children who may have few books in their own homes. But first there was time to introduce them to 'There Was an Old Sailor'. In this I was ably assisted by two students: a sailor-feeder and a page-turner Captain. Then it was time for the main event: handing out the bags. Some didn't make it quite that far. Let's have words: Lancefield
http://letshavewords.blogspot.com/2015/08/lancefield.html
Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Ah, for a day away! We had dinner and an overnight stay at Lancefield. We arrived just as the sun was dipping and went for a 'constitutional' before dinner. Actually, before wine-tasting. The winery/restaurant/accommodation sits high and has grand views on almost all sides. It's set in the midst of paddocks and vineyards. Alpacas decorate the paddock. They were a little skittish, but soon returned to their evening snacking. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Let's have words: Road Trip
http://letshavewords.blogspot.com/2015/07/road-trip.html
Wednesday, 8 July 2015. I've been on the road this past week, travelling through Victoria, NSW and ACT. This gorgeous roofline shows just how things were done in the 19 C. Very stylish. The Hay station now houses a museum and some council departments and the tracks only hold stationary carriages. But they do it well. River road, Hay. There are not many trees south of Hay, but the Murrumbidgee keeps a few close to the banks. This train-loader thing (yes that is the technical term) was operated manually.

Let's have words: Willy morning
http://letshavewords.blogspot.com/2015/07/willy-morning.html
Monday, 20 July 2015. It was a tad cool this morning, for Melbourne, close to 0 deg C where I live. Of course this is the morning I had to have my car at the mechanics at opening, before any cafes had set out their welcome signs. I went for a walk. I'm not sure who tilted the horizon, but I'm sure those ships sailing towards the heads were grateful. The city and southeast was looking a little reluctant to start the day. And there was frost on the seaweed! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Let's have words: The Rajah Quilt
http://letshavewords.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-rajah-quilt.html
Tuesday, 30 June 2015. Yesterday, I had a cup of tea with Eva Abbinga, an artist who is creating a sculpture and quilts, inspired by the Rajah quilt. The panels were amazing individually but will be even more so when the quilt and project is complete. The Rajah quilt is full of stories, and it's wonderful that it continues to gather stories. Look out Eva's project, appearing in a number of places. You can see a little of Eva's work here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Thursday, October 18, 2012. If you haven't heard of Halosarcia pergranulata, you may know it by its common name. It is a small, succulent woody shrub. It grows dense and erect. It can reach up to 1 metre tall, but is usually much smaller. One of our many local indigenous gems. Here's one I've prepared earlier. To this day I a...
