The ideas and opinions expressed in this blog are soley those of its creator, and do not represent the views of the Peace Corps or the United States Government. Monday, May 20, 2013. Visit to Nueva Germania. I'm in Guarambaré with my host family, Cristi and Artemio, again. I spent most of last week up in Nueva Germania visiting and saying goodbye. That visit was the most powerful part of my long Paraguayan despedida. The passivity, la tranquilidad. I'll buy my bus ticket for 9am wednesday to Salta, Argen...

The ideas and opinions expressed in this blog are soley those of its creator, and do not represent the views of the Peace Corps or the United States Government. Friday, October 12, 2012. Thanks to my neighbor's blessed generosity in leaving their wifi without a password, I have just been finally immersing myself in Gangnam Style. The Korean rap music video that's gone crazy viral in the last few months. They are all just giddy. While the material developed in Hispanic America is obviously comprehensible ...

La Vida Linda: The rain and the mud.

The ideas and opinions expressed in this blog are soley those of its creator, and do not represent the views of the Peace Corps or the United States Government. Monday, April 30, 2012. The rain and the mud. When it rains, it pours. But you'll will catch a cold! The mud which follows the rain has some supernatural quality to it. It has powers that render analogy with my past North-American mud experience irrelvant and even absurd. Mud affects people's daily lives in Paraguay in a way that is incon...Learn...

The ideas and opinions expressed in this blog are soley those of its creator, and do not represent the views of the Peace Corps or the United States Government. Friday, August 17, 2012. The weather has been glorious here. Windy and warm, highs in the 80s, lows in the 60s. It is like the best of summer in the NW and I have been bombarded with mini flashbacks to sailing, bike riding, baseball, picnics, lawn mowing, house painting. I actually was painting my ugly ugly house last weekend. Don't need to go in...

The ideas and opinions expressed in this blog are soley those of its creator, and do not represent the views of the Peace Corps or the United States Government. Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Asuncion - part 3: Buses. That looks and smells similar. I spent extra time in the city to be able to see my girlfriend, who works as a cook in a business which is run out of a large home. She lives and of course eats there too, which is great because she is able to save so much of her wages to send home to her family.

Structure, Seinfeld, and Play. Post-Structuralist Adventures in a Post-Seinfeld World. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Seinfeld is a self-conscious reinforcement of the capitalist patriarchy: Not that there's anything wrong with that. On Thursday morning I presented this paper at the 34th annual Gender Studies Symposium at Lewis & Clark College (where I went to school)—Material Conditions: Gender, Sexuality, Capitalism. This represented the culmination of my third phase of scholarship on Seinfeld. As this is th...
