A corner of France. Random musings on running a private hotel / gîte in Northern France. Monday, 30 June 2014. Recently, it threw in the towel when asked to deal with a particularly nasty tree root, and the central blade mounting sheared completely off its moorings. Perhaps the failure was a long time in the making, perhaps it was just sudden and catastrophic. Anyhow, I had to replace the blade mount before I could use the thing again. Our local Espace Emeraude. On a separate occasion, I was in the pool area, and heard a strange noise, like water hissing. I eventually traced it to the shower mixer valve. Gosh, I thought, with my ear to the valve, I can hear the pumps circulating the water around the system. It's easy enough to see in the last picture; the nut nearest ...

A corner of France: August 2014

A corner of France. Random musings on running a private hotel / gîte in Northern France. Saturday, 30 August 2014. The biennial convention of the British Flute Society was held this year at the Warwick Arts Centre. For me it's a "must", an opportunity to submerge myself completely in the world of the the flute and its music, renew friendships and make new ones. Plus workshops (e.g. circular breathing for flutists), lecture-recitals, and informal performances of flute groups in the foyer. I've always been...

I posted just a little while back about my project to build some new amplifiers. Never mind. Enjoy the music. Links to this post. Friday, 20 March 2015. The moulin du Gô. A corner of France. Random musings on running a private hotel / gîte in Northern France. Friday, 24 April 2015. Laval boasts a KFC and at least two McDonalds, so if I'm up for fast food, and I'm in Laval, I normally make a choice between the two. In my view, there's not a lot between them. Chicken and beef are equally acceptable proteins; I prefer the McDonalds chips but KFC give you unlimited drinks. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Le Domaine des Hallais. A corner of France. Random musings on running a private hotel / gîte in Northern France. Saturday, 21 February 2015. The town hall (le mairie) looks very fancy, and the gardens have recently been landscaped and redone. There is a new car parking area beside it, and the street lamps are new, and illuminated at night with little LED rings at about chest height so that semi-blind people don't walk into them. The salle socio-culturelle. In the end, it's a fun, if rather warm, night out. And even though m...

A corner of France. Random musings on running a private hotel / gîte in Northern France. Friday, 23 January 2015. Hence the arc welding. The air in the garage was two-colours bright for a while; white from the arc welding, and blue from the swearing. Over time, the welding transformer disappeared back to the college, the iron went to wherever iron goes to die. Nothing was said. On the other hand, how hard can it be? And I only want plant stakes. And here's the finished product. What a masterpiece! Nor ca...

A corner of France. Random musings on running a private hotel / gîte in Northern France. Tuesday, 21 April 2015. Ok, so it comes out every year, and I blog about it every year, but, well, it's out again now and it's gorgeous. The fact that it is gorgeous is the perfect reason to blog about it every year :-). 21 April 2015 at 14:02. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Le Domaine des Hallais.
