A journal where I share my work: inspiration, process, materials, stories, concepts, community, exhibitions. Sunday, July 5, 2015. Dorothy Caldwell taught her 'Human Marks' workshop in Gloria Daly's Duncan studio. Many of us had registered for the workshop over 18 months ago, as soon as we heard Dorothy was coming to the island. Dorothy is a gifted teacher and a great artist. Everyone was so eager to be coached by her for the week. Throughout these exercises, we were thinking of the word Dorothy gave us -.
Lesley Turner: Studio Construction: Floor Tiles
http://lesleyturner.blogspot.com/2015/07/studio-construction-floor-tiles.html
A journal where I share my work: inspiration, process, materials, stories, concepts, community, exhibitions. Thursday, July 2, 2015. Studio Construction: Floor Tiles. An exciting delivery - the floor tiles. But, oh dear, many of the boxes are damaged and a lot of the tiles appear to be broken. The pallet is broken as though it was dropped. Ron carried all of the boxes into the studio and opened them up. The tiles now have to acclimatise to the interior conditions before they can be laid. Small Expression...
Lesley Turner: Dorothy Caldwell: Book Making - Putting it all Together
http://lesleyturner.blogspot.com/2015/07/dorothy-caldwell-book-making-putting-it.html
A journal where I share my work: inspiration, process, materials, stories, concepts, community, exhibitions. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Dorothy Caldwell: Book Making - Putting it all Together. Dorothy showed us many other methods for making our mark on fabric and paper. She also showed us many examples of what others had done in the past and what contemporary artists are currently working on. We were left to continue exploring the methods we liked. The last activity involved everyone sharing their books.

I came home from the Dorothy Caldwell workshop to find the new garden bed has flowers for the first time. This inlet to the pond had been completely covered by blackberry. Once it was cleared there was nothing else growing. Meanwhile. back in the studio the built-in furniture had been put back after the plumber visited. Garden Tapes...

Friday, 11 April 2014. It always seems rather a dichotomy that when you have lots of things going on that would be of interest to a blog reader that you never have time to actually blog about it- Such is my life at the moment , with about 4 different textile directions tearing at me. I am currently researching 18th century embroidery techniques and costume in connection with all this and when I have a sample to tease you with I will. At the moment its all note taking, drawing and photographing. The Craft...

Sunday, 24 August 2014. This is just a quick post to say that I haven't abandoned the blogworld. The last few months have been quite fraught with family and health problems and because of this my creativity seems to be at a low ebb. When on this diet. Pretty much everything enjoyable in life, no? Fenugreek (a common spice in Indian cuisine). He's totally on board and supportive and is slimming down himself. Recommend doin...

This new work began when the Vancouver Island Surface Design Association put out a call for entry. They were looking for an interpretation of 'Pathways' in a 60" x 12" format.
