Colombia {How Did We Get Here? Back the truck up. Yep, that's about right. Now place that truck in park.wait, you forgot the emergency brake. Now watch that truck roll down the hill rapidly and just hang on. You feelin' what I'm feelin'? This is the part where we do a little musical echo thing and I say, "You feel it? And you all go, "Yeah, we feel it." Then repeat.}. The past 4 1/2 years of adoption land have been a wild ride. If that isn't the understatement of the year.}. A LOT happened in those years.

Our Boy {A God-Sized Miracle}. November 1st, 2014, we set foot on American soil with our little man. I have wanted to blog, but then it has all seemed too big a story to unpack. I think about uploading pictures and writing words and my heart just hasn't been ready. I still can't believe it happened. One month shy of four years in process to adopt and we crossed the finish line. The family you see in this picture contracted for a "short" 6-9 month adoption from Ethiopia. Please stop and re-read that.

Welcome Home Ahijah {A Family}. I remember our wheels touching down and immediately calling my friends who weren't going to be able to be at the gate. They had held my hand and my heart through so much of this journey and I know they wished they could be there. I wanted them to "be there" as much as they could via face time. No surprise, I was trying to holding back tears and was not very successful. Lee's sweet Aunt Ann actually works at the airport, and somehow she timed it just right. I wasn't that gi...

Just when you thought I gave up blogging. But good grief, a post a month? Time to get back on the wagon. Two posts a month. Don't hold me to it.). Remember the era of daily blogging? Now by the time I get to the photos on my camera I look at them and think, "When was this? Or "What is that a picture of? I give you Exhibit A:. 1 I've never been here. 2 I couldn't tell you why I have a picture of it on my phone. I didn't attend this function but Eva did (middle with red dress on.). Fasten your seat belts.

First Quarter Report {aka: Picture Dump}. What have we been doing the last 3 months? New Year's Day hike. Eva is the QUEEN of selfies right now. Did a 7 week Bible Study with the ladies from my church. Got sent a belated photo of our kids in the Christmas production. Realized I am probably the only person with a camping chair next to her bed. Maisey helped me a lot in the kitchen. Thursdays continue to be Cinnamon Roll Day. Aerobics with Elisha, Eva, and Maisey. Willoughby and her entourage. Winter trip ...

Our Habakkuk: Part 2 {The Sovereign Lord is My Strength}. This post is a tough one to write. I'm just monotone, spitting out facts and timelines and headliner situations in our lives. All the more reason I need to write, to process so that my heart can unload. And to be honest? I'm not sure where I stand. Let me say that again. I'm not sure where I stand. That is humorous to me. You either have to laugh at the insanity or you become part of the insanity. I choose to laugh. But what I didn't know was that...

Peru: The Shanty Towns {Part 3}, Papa's Birthday, and the Nazca Lines. My dad has always wanted to take us flying over the Nazca lines. He's talked about Peru a lot through the years, and he tells stories in ways that make you feel you're right there with him. Due to his stellar story-telling abilities, I felt like I had already flown the lines, and therefore my thirst for that adventure was quenched. I present to you the plane. The sun was bright. I don't mind small planes. My dad knows so much about th...

Our Habakkuk {Part 1: Though Nothing, Still Rejoicing}. Though the fig tree does not bud. And there are no grapes on the vines,. Though the olive crop fails. And the fields produce no food,. Though there are no sheep in the pen and. No cattle in the stalls,. Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,. I will be joyful in God my Savior.". On Christmas Eve we received this picture of our precious Habakkuk. I can't tell you how full my heart was that night, knowing that soon, soon. We would be going to bring him home.

My hands get a little sweaty when I contemplate writing about our first day together. It was 12 parts awesome because we had waited so long for this day. It was one part hard and everything we prepared for it to be, traumatic, heart-wrenching, and exhausting. Ahijah had been in an orphanage since he was itty-bitty. That's all he'd ever known. He had no clue there was a family on the other side of the world ready to bring him home. The kid in these pictures is not the boy I know now. His orphanage directo...
