Kicking off on Wednesday at midday and powering on through ’til 2pm the next day, three fellow jammers and I formed a team and took part in a ridiculously short 26-hour-but-technically-only-18-due-to-venue-restrictions at Develop 2015, the UK games industry conference that happens to just be a walk up the road from my front door! One of three tracks created alongside the London Swing Orchestra for an experimental project to help the band break into the electro swing scene. Influenced by the developing electro swing club scene at the time, this takes a harder stance the other two and was intended for a post-peak, deep-in-the-heart-of-the-night set, in contrast to the other two that are more upbeat and chilled. Is an addictive PC arcade game full of brilliant lights, split second decisions, tight controls and a sweet disco beat! To progress you need to shoot locks to unlock the portal to the next level but be careful – your lasers never stop bouncing around the level, so you quickly end up creating your own bullet hell. This is my entry to Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers’ Destiny’s Door Composition Contest, not to mention my first attempt at orchestral composition! The competition was to take the stems for a one minute track and use at least one of them in some way to create a new one minute track. Other than that, anything goes. Paying homage to the classic 80s platform-puzzler Manic Miner and Hanna Barbera cartoons of the 70s, you play The Guy, a ‘stache-sporting Airport P.I. trying to track down stolen suitcases and get them back from evil ninjas, avoiding snoozing security, tacky robots and of course deadly shuriken stars!
