Notes from a Heart Surgery Patient. In 1998, my family doctor heard an abnormal heart beat and sent me to a Cardiologist. After my first Echocardiogram. The cardiologist diagnosed me with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy. I was 24, training for my first triathlon only to be told by a cardiologist that I should not do high intensity exercise or heavy weight lifting. She advised going on Beta-Blockers. It’s been two years since my heart surgery and about that long since I last updated this blog. Every day this blog gets many visits and I know it’s helped put people at ease before and after their heart surgery. I don’t regret getting the myectomy for a thickened heart muscle. I feel strong, healthy, and recognize how much easier life is when you’ve got enough oxygen! Is an email/phone call away.

Notes from a Heart Surgery Patient. Diet Day 31 →. June 26, 2012. Before I went into surgery I bought a bunch of key foods to help in the healing process. Although my regular diet is quite clean, this diet is extra clean with a few extras I wouldn’t normally include. I plan to document this process as I heal.
