We drove from the Hershey Family Reunion in Earl Park, Indiana, to North Sydney, NS, and caught the August 11, 9:00 AM ferry to Port aux Basques. NF, arriving about 3 PM Newfoundland time. Newfoundland time is one-half hour ahead of Atlantic time as used in the other Canadian Maritime Provinces. There is a problem that causes most gardeners to fence in their garden. Click on a picture for an enlarged version. The boardwalk is 4 miles long with Audubon members stationed along to help visitors see and identify animals and plants. It is all wheelchair accessible, and there is a shorter walk of about 1.5 miles for those not up to the full length. No toilet facilities are along the boardwalk. January Animals of Ding Darling NWR. We visited the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, 12 January 2002. The Darling NWR is located on Sanibel Island just west of Ft. Myers, FL. In addition to the refuge, Sanibel Island has many developed areas with shops, dwellings, restaurants, and public beaches. There is a toll bridge connecting the island to the mainland. Venice, Florida, Rookery. Some pictures were cropped, and this is stated in the captions. Almost all were brightened a small amount in PSE because I like them brightened. Our Trips of 2002. We made three trips in the year 2002. Our first trip, in January, was to Florida. The Hershey Winter Reunion. In Kissimmee, Florida, was the first stop of this trip. We then visited the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. On Sanibel Island just outside Ft. Myers, Florida. We next made a Travelwild tour to see Alaskan brown bears at the Brooks River. Hershey Family Reunion 2001. Go to Lewie's Home Page. Go to Hershey Home Page. As always, the adults get together and talk. At night, a campfire brings everyone together for smores. A posted sign tells the activities for each day of the reunion. Tents and trailers were decorated with lights of the Christmas Season. Three out of four of the first generation 12 siblings still alive were at this reunion. Betty, John, and Jeanne were present. Don could not attend. Go to Hershey Main Page.

That first year, I recognized that this was a group of truly special people, with family ties much stronger than I have seen. I don't know how many were at that reunion, but they were not strangers long. Those, and all the others I have met since the first I now proudly call cousin whether or not they are.
