Longtown Historical Society Archives: Ewyas Lacy Hundred (Herefordshire)

The Hundred and Manor of Ewyas Lacy. The lordship was held by the de Lacy family until 1241, when at the death of Walter (ll) de Lacy it was divided. Century; the remainder of the manor being bought by John Jefferies, Esq.of Brecon, c.1700. The parishes in Ewyas Lacy Hundred are Craswall, Cusop, Llancillo. Llanveynoe, Longtown (with Clodock), Michaelchurch Escley, Newton, Rowlestone, St Margarets and Walterstone. The memories and reminiscences of some of our older residents are being collected in a series of sound recordings often supported by video material. These will show the changes which have occurred in the area within living memory, of the farming practices, social structure, educational services, and the demography and economic basis of our community. The sound recordings will preserve and illustrate much of the old dialect of the area. Copies of the complete booklets can be obtained from the Society.
