New York: Dutton, 2009. This book combines two things I love: John Green’s writing and Chicago. (I haven’t read anything by David Levithan but am inspired to grab one of his books right now! I love this premise. I am a fan of books with alternating narrators (. 08/17/2010 at 1:47 PM. I sort of forced this bo...

Franny may have been catapulted into my top 10 favorite young girl narrators. I want to give Franny a hug. And I applaud her for not losing her mind despite the mess she’s in. I’d venture to say that the Baby-Sitters Club girls were like the Sex and the City girls of their day. I was definitely a Mary Ann, (who I guess grew up to be Charlotte? Insert slow clap for mom here. That girl went for comfort from the get-go.

Books, check 'em out. And i need a job, so i want to be a paperback writer. 8212; kimbolee @ 8:24 AM. Um, hello. This is the best book I read in 2010, hands down (and I read a lot of books. It’s historical fiction, but it’s the kind of “historical” “fiction” that tricks you by really being set in the present, and then taking you back in time. Through a diary. Jennifer Donnelly is a trickster! So he whisks her off to Paris (sooo awesome) and tells her she has to write her senior thesis or ELSE! Also, I sh...

Sunday, October 24, 2010. Different kind of book. I'm in the mood to read a book that isn't about a main character who is super special and talented, who will always save the day. I want a book from Draco Malfoy's point of view, or Neville! Maybe Jasper, Rosalie, or Jacob. You'd still see all the stuff the great one does, but from someone else's standpoint. And, you'd get to see more about their life. Am I the only one who thinks a book like that would be interesting? Posted by Across the Library.

Sunday, October 3, 2010. Fallout by Ellen Hopkins. One thing I can't deny about Ellen Hopkins is that the lady knows how to write! Is the third book of the Crank. Series, which is a fictional account of real life events that Ellen Hopkins went through with her own daughter. She manages to weave truth and fiction together in a fashion that keeps the reader tied to the story. The two previous books of the series were written from Kristina/Bree's point of view, while Fallou. While these little tidbits of in...

Wednesday, August 25, 2010. Initial thoughts on Mockingjay. Don't worry, I'm going to try and stay away from spoilers, at least for now! In my opinion, the hardest part of writing any book or story is writing the ending. I imagine that it's probably incredibly more difficult when you are writing the ending of a book that has been a popular series. The author always knows that some fans will love it and some fans will hate it. Of course you can't please everyone. That said, how do I feel about Mockingjay?

Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Wicked Girls: A Novel of the Salem Witch Trials by by Stephanie Hemphill. I've always been fascinated by the history of the Salem Witch Trials, so when I was checking this book in, I immediately nabbed it for myself! It wasn't until later that I realized that the book is written in verse. I've only read a few other books in verse, but I do like the style, so I was looking forward to a quick read about a topic that I enjoy. Posted by Across the Library. Monday, January 24, 2011.

Monday, January 31, 2011. Wildthorn by Jane Eagland. I'm still really backed up on my reading - I'm trying to catch up on the books I need to read that were selected for my LTRC 2010 list, while also reading books for the 2011 list and other books that just catch my eye. Well this book was one of those books! I try not to take home any new books until I finish the ones I have at home, but I couldn't help but sneak this one into my pile, and I'm glad I did! Saturday, September 18, 2010. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. Cassandra Clare has done it again - she's written another beautiful novel that captures readers with all of the supernatural characters, twists and turns, and even a bit of steampunk! Is the first of a prequel series by Clare. The series, Infernal Devices. Takes place around 100 years or so before her Mortal Instrument. Series, and though you do see some of the characters, and other characters' last names in the Mortal Instrument. With the...

Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley. I loved the fast, whimsy, outlandish style of these. Most graphic novels jump all over the place, but sometimes that can be confusing. Scott Pilgrim uses that fast pace and makes it work for him. I liked how it was so over the top and unbelievable that you didn't think about how most of the stuff could never happen. That's the whole point, and why it rocks! In the mean time, his own exes are lurking around ready to star...

My name is Karen. I'm a librarian. I like to do crafty stuff. Wednesday, April 6, 2016. So, I'm selling most of my purse making supplies. I still have some items for sale at Artisans at Work. But won't be restocking. And I'm not quite sure yet to do with my Etsy shop. Most of what I sell there is buttons, anything larger and the high cost of shipping is a deterrent. Monday, 21 September 2015. RBSCG conference 2015: Hidden collections: revealed. In the first week of September I attended one day of the CILIP RBSCG. The conference was split between Friends' House Library. And the Friday was at the British Library's conference centre. Where they have possibly the comfiest conference seats I have ever sat on. The conference had been divided up into six sessions, and I was there for the final two. Session five was uncovering your collections - promotion. Adrian concluded ...
