The LibrariYAn: About
http://librariyan.blogspot.com/p/about.html
Young Adult Literature News and Reviews. Trying on the Mad Hatter's hat at The Story Museum's (UK) Alice exhibit. I started this blog when I first finished my MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) at Rutgers University in December 2008. Since then, I've gone through periods of deluge and drought in terms of posting. I am in my 7th year as the Middle School Librarian at. St Stephen's and St. Agnes School. And Harry Potter Camp that run through our school's. Am also an active member of. Look at ...
The LibrariYAn: A Swoon-worthy Author Story
http://librariyan.blogspot.com/2014/03/a-swoon-worthy-author-story.html
Young Adult Literature News and Reviews. Thursday, March 13, 2014. A Swoon-worthy Author Story. Feiwel and Friends (which itself in an imprint of Macmillan) recently launched a new imprint for YA romance called Swoon Reads. Unlike most publishers, where the editors receive submissions directly, Swoon Reads receives its submissions via the internet, and they're all posted LIVE for regular people like you and me to read and comment on! The imprint's first published title, A Little Something Different.
The LibrariYAn: Trailer Tuesday: Half Bad by Sally Green
http://librariyan.blogspot.com/2014/03/trailer-tuesday-half-bad-by-sally-green.html
Young Adult Literature News and Reviews. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Trailer Tuesday: Half Bad. I saw the author speak at the 2014 ALA Midwinter Best Fiction for Young Adults Teen Feedback Session (say that 10 times fast! Have you read it? What do you think? Half Bad (The Half Bad Trilogy). In the tradition of Patrick Ness and Markus Zusak, Half Bad is a gripping tale of alienation and the indomitable will to survive, a story that will grab hold of you and not let go until the very last page.
The LibrariYAn: 15 Reasons to Date a Librarian
http://librariyan.blogspot.com/2014/03/15-reasons-to-date-librarian.html
Young Adult Literature News and Reviews. Wednesday, March 12, 2014. 15 Reasons to Date a Librarian. A librarian friend posted this on Facebook and I just couldn't help myself. I had to re-post. EHarmony has put together a list of 15 Reasons to Date a Librarian. I particularly enjoy reason #15. Rarr! I wonder if eHarmony has created similar lists for say, lawyers, accountants, nurses and the like. I receive a small percentage of the purchase price. March 12, 2014 at 10:33 AM. The LibrariYAn: Bonus Trailer: The Maze Runner Movie!
http://librariyan.blogspot.com/2014/03/bonus-trailer-maze-runner-movie.html
Young Adult Literature News and Reviews. Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Bonus Trailer: The Maze Runner Movie! Coming to theaters this September. And interestingly, I feel like the movie trailer chose pretty much the same shots and plot points to highlight as the book trailer (which happens to be one of my favorite book trailers of all time). See below for comparison. Now I (and everyone else who loves the series) just hope that the movie lives up to the book. I receive a small percentage of the purchase price.

The LiteraBuss: Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Do Schools Kill Creativity? I show this video to a content area literacy course that I teach at the university each semester. I think it's important to hear what Sir Ken Robinson (a leading researcher from England on Drama and Theater in Education) has to say about creativity in education and how the hierarchy of the educational system globally crushes creativity. http://literary-buss.blogspot.com/2010/02/expert-teachers-1-reason-kids-succeed.html
Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Expert Teachers, the #1 Reason Kids Succeed. To put it quite simply, these articles, that I won't name here yet, because that's not the point of my discussion here, claim that the single biggest factor on student learning is quality teaching. Of course, quality teaching is almost impossible to define because it means different things to different students. Posted by Ross Bussell. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). With my 5th grade classroom, and they enjoyed the entire experience so much that I am currently about half way done reading it aloud to my 4th graders. Or on Greek Mythology. http://literary-buss.blogspot.com/2010/04/im-putting-final-touches-on-some.html
Thursday, April 29, 2010. My Research on Ability Grouping in Reading Classrooms. I'm putting the final touches on some ethnographic research I've been conducting this semester in conjunction with a doctoral class. The study was about the effects of ability grouping in reading on students self-perception and teacher curricular choice. The study has been very interesting and eye opening. Also, as part of this study, I took a look at teacher curricular choices depending upon group level taught. Again I'...

Sunday, February 21, 2010. Caring Teachers and Zero Tolerance in Schools. Caring for others and having a positive impact on their lives is the very essence of humanity. 8220;The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.” Elie Wiesel. Reading about the extreme level of reaction to a girl doodling, in marker, on her desk, is a cause...

Young Adult Literature News and Reviews. Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Harry Potter Camp: Quidditch. No Harry Potter Camp would be complete without everyone's favorite wizard sport: quidditch. This combination of rugby, dodgeball and tag is confusing and very hard to referee, but also exciting! Because you get to carry a broom, like a real wizard! She's out for blood. Beware. Organization that has created a 200 page rule book. We played quidditch four out of the five days and alternated which houses partner...
