A sibling of a child with deaf-blindness joins in the fun at a family camp.

中東一詞原是以歐洲為中心的地理名稱，而這個橫跨亞、非、歐大陸，人類的文明誕生的地區史可追溯至六千年前，隨著時代的演進，如今的中東一詞還兼有伊斯蘭/阿拉伯文化圈的定義。中東這個具有豐富文化內涵，世界三大宗教基督教、猶太教與伊斯蘭教的發源地如今在人們的印象之中卻多為充滿戰亂、恐怖分子橫行的區域。一人一票的選舉制度發展至今，在許多國家都產生了難解的問題在媒體煽情的助威下，是否走向盲目民粹政治政治人物的首要技能是否在於表演，民主政治應有的理性討論程序在那裡短期救急政策凌駕於長期發展政策之上，導致國家債台高築，如何解決雖然一人一票，真正有政治影響力的，是否只限於少數家族和團體，所以表象為民主，實際為寡頭政治可否改進民主制度，來克服這些現象有沒有其他的制度可供學習或選擇這些制度最後會朝同一方向演進嗎本書所稱理想國，是引用柏拉圖的書名來探討群體治理模式，從而試圖對於以上各問題，提供一個民主制度運作的另一選項。具體而言，本書所聚焦介紹的審議式民調，是群體治理模式優質化中一個可以被考慮的單元，好比磚頭是整棟建築的一個單元，故書名稱為理想國的磚塊.
