Cross Cultural Communication: Spoken Discourse
http://yiling-in-gek1036.blogspot.com/2009/09/spoken-discourse.html
Friday, September 11, 2009. I think spoken discourse is pretty confusing. The lecture only mentions examples after examples of speech events as an extended version of spoken discourse but doesn't define spoken discourse. Like that how ah? A very typical phrase students use when confused about school content to communicate within local context. Is that a spoken discourse or a speech act? I believe my answers should be coming soon! Can be used to identify the other party! Me: Yes what's up? Me: I am me!

Yes, most people have probably heard about it: how French people kiss each other on the cheeks. I had heard about it before leaving for a one-month summer programme in France last year, but hearing about it was just not enough to prepare me for the real thing. It's like I was a total stranger to her. My Fre...

I went for a rehearsal last friday, and met my section partner first time. We introduce ourselves to each other, shake hands, and we chat whenever we don't need to play! The rest of orchestra! Our chatting topic changed almost every time after another break, from where we from, how good the instrument is, what are you playing now, and the future career. etc. Key: free, relaxed.

GEK1036 Cross-Cultural Communication and Discourse: August 2009
http://whatsyourculturelike.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
GEK1036 Cross-Cultural Communication and Discourse. Sunday, August 30, 2009. I thought it was particularly fascinating to know that cultural systems can significantly affect our language conventions. Since speech acts are non-universal, inappropriate use might result in highly embarrassing social gaffes. Which simply meant "how are you? No bluff. Talk about making a lasting impression though. Okay, until next time :). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
