Monday, July 04, 2011. As I made my way back to the hotel, I found a local shopping mall, with a large section of beauty salon products, from wigs to color to scissors to chairs and gowns and the special lights that go outside, kinda like a barber pole in black and white. It was great. I am not sad about going home, which is a first for me. I’m tired and - should I say? Would like to be in a crowd where I know what people are saying! http://sounds-like-me.blogspot.com/2011/07/dams-and-trains.html
Monday, July 04, 2011. We’ve met a lovely couple from Germany on the cruise. They are on their honeymoon and will be living in China for 6 months. Benno, the husband, works for Bosch and Vanessa, the wife, is taking 6 months off of her job to go through this experience. We exchanged email and Facebook addresses, so I hope we can stay in touch. sounds like me: Chongquing
http://sounds-like-me.blogspot.com/2011/07/chongquing.html
Monday, July 04, 2011. On our first night here, we all split up for dinner after a basic tour of the city. Chris and I were ready for a break from Chinese food and went to a “Western style” restaurant, C Stairs (? 160; There were very few people in the dining room, which had a large mural of the pilgrims celebrating the first Thanksgiving. We had bacon wrapped steak with a fried scallop on top – it was delicious! 160; She knows exactly what to do! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I have always dream...

sounds like me: The Square and the City
http://sounds-like-me.blogspot.com/2011/07/square-and-city.html
Monday, July 04, 2011. The Square and the City. The square is enormous. It can hold one million people. There is a huge building for Mao’s tomb. It was not open, but Langer said we could come back and lineup for 2 hours to see Mao’s embalmed body on display. I don’t think I will. 160; There were 4 of them speeding around, then the lights went out, so all you could see were headlights and taillights spinning. The kids went nuts and so did we. sounds like me: That Great Wall
http://sounds-like-me.blogspot.com/2011/07/that-great-wall.html
Monday, July 04, 2011. 160; The Germans installed the toboggan some years ago and that’s the way we decided to go. It is a metal chute that you ride down in little plastic cars with metal runners. They have a brake (you pull back on the stick) or you can push down on the stick to fly. What incredible fun! 160; Except for the two stupid Indian girls ahead of us, who got frightened and slowed down at most of the bends, I flew down through the trees. It was wonderful. 160; With all 3 cameras! I wish I c...

sounds like me: Temples and Shopping
http://sounds-like-me.blogspot.com/2011/07/temples-and-shopping.html
Monday, July 04, 2011. Langer suggested we check out the Lama Temple on our free day. Chris and I figured out how to take the subway there. What an adventure! 160; There were huge crowds underground, but we figured how to buy a ticket, get on the right car and make it to the temple. It was a beautiful spot, full of devote Buddhists, but it was hot and humid, so we didn’t stay long. Thursday, June 30. 160; Chris and I decided to go to the Cultural Museum, which is across the street from Tiananmen Squar...

sounds like me: PANDAS!
http://sounds-like-me.blogspot.com/2011/07/pandas.html
Monday, July 04, 2011. We have left the Panda Reserve and are on the train to Chongquing where we will spend the night before getting on the boat down the Yangtze. What can I say about the pandas? 8221; It cost about $150, called a “donation” to the reserve, but where was I going to have an opportunity like that again? 160; I stood in line to wait, got my plastic booties and gloves and walked in to an isolated spot with a bench and THE BABY PANDA!
