Life by the big Apfel. The (mis)adventures of a Scot abroad. St Martin, St Martin. December 16, 2015. May 4, 2016. Have you been looking for a holiday that’s like Hallowe’en but better? Sankt Martinstag is possibly my favourite German ‘thing’ that I’ve encountered so far. It celebrates the life of Sankt Martin who met a beggar on a cold winter’s day and cut his coat in two so that the beggar wouldn’t freeze to death. This year I went to watch the Kindergarten parade and awwwwed over just how cute the tin...

Life by the big Apfel. The (mis)adventures of a Scot abroad. Gips a break, please! October 22, 2015. May 4, 2016. Well, I’m now almost two months in to my German adventure and things have certainly been interesting… I had grand plans: plans to travel, to explore, just to throw myself into life in a new country. My plans did not, however, include getting first-hand experience of the German health service within two weeks of arrival. Crutches safely back in the cupboard. I only had to keep the cast on for ...

Why did we do that?: September 2014

Why did we do that? Just a few bits and pieces . Wednesday, 17 September 2014. Fiona the I20 runs out of warranty. Fiona has been my trusty steed since 2010, and came with a 5 year or 60000 mile warranty. So far, I have only had to replace the tyres and get some bits for brakes. (I am not very technical! So with sadness, we passed together from 59999 to 60000 miles today and you would expect a photo to mark the occasion. Here's to the next 60000 miles. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Why did we do that? Just a few bits and pieces . Tuesday, 12 August 2014. 25 years have passed since we started in on this wedded bliss thing, so to celebrate, we took the wage-sappers out for a steak. Why did we do that?: April 2015
http://candlish.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Why did we do that? Just a few bits and pieces . Monday, 13 April 2015. All change on the leisure front. 10 years after our first trip to Joeressen's caravan showroom in Rheindahlen, we have decided to sell the Hobby. We have grown-up kids, and different needs. so it makes sence to let ths beautiful van go to a new home. The writing was on the wall when one child grew too tall for the top bunk. So inconsiderate! This photoshoot took place at Craigtoun Caravan park, St Andrews. Links to this post. So we a...
Why did we do that?: October by the seaside

Why did we do that? Just a few bits and pieces . Sunday, 12 October 2014. October by the seaside. I looked at the map of Scotland, and decided it was time to go where no Candlish had gone before. So on a misty Sunday morning we took the caravan and headed off to the dark south-west: down the M74 to Dumfries, along the A77 to Newton Stewart, and off the beaten track, to Garlieston. Here are some of the photos:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What is Eilidh up to now? Click here to catch up with EIlidh.

Why did we do that? Just a few bits and pieces . Saturday, 6 December 2014. Mistletoe and wine -. Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus. Right down Santa Claus Lane. Vixen, Blitzen, all his reindeer. Pulling on the reins. Bells are ringing, children singing. All is merry and bright. Hang your stockings and say a prayer. Cause Santa Claus comes tonight. We got caught in Santa Claus lane, but luckily all the reindeer were already for sale as venison burgers at the farmers' market. The romance of t...

Why did we do that? Just a few bits and pieces . Saturday, 23 August 2014. A blustery day in Aberdeenshire. With the girls off at Guide Camp, we found ourselves with a couple of nights away in Aberdeenshire. So we had a meal out in Aberdeen city, then spend the next day heading up the coast to Peterhead, Fraserburgh and Pennan. I bought a trombone. You weren't expecting that now. Then collect the girls from camp on the Sunday, and home. Links to this post. Tuesday, 12 August 2014. Links to this post.
