Voyage | lifeinamudhut

https://lifeinamudhut.wordpress.com/2013/10/17/voyage

The day begins before the sun starts its voyage across the empty sky. One last coffee with the guards as they change shifts. One last look at my empty room. One last prayer before I leave. And the tears start to fall, suddenly overwhelming me after their conspicuous absence over the last few days. It sinks in that I am leaving these walls, these dirt tracks, and these people. The moon hangs over the water like a Christmas decoration waiting for darkness to fall to show its splendour. Tonight I won’t ...

Blistered hands, bleeding heart. With a grated cock-a-doodle-do, Ben and Olga, my rooster and hen, descend from their own hiding place high amongst the branches. Today they will be relocated into the village. The same is true for my three-legged calico, Macch, though I’ll admit I’m slightly more attached to her curious ways than the scratching and squawking of my feathered friends. And once again I am overwhelmed by such intense desire never to forget. This moment. This place. This people. Some suggest t...

This is a tale of striking out alone - learning to dance with fear, to march barefoot and bold, and to trade comfort for wild and brutal dreaming and living. It's about wishing and hoping, longing and trying, and whatever I choose to write about in between. It's about social justice and the struggle between marveling at the beauty of life and opening my eyes to hell. Friday, December 20, 2013. Atop North Mountain

December 11, 2017. Reading time 2 minutes. I haven’t paid much attention to fear since then but it’s been sneaking up on me lately. It seems to me I feel all kinds of fear now. The kind that jolts you awake when you almost drive into the ditch but somehow don’t. Quick to subside with only lingering tingles in your feet and hands. The fear you feel when you think you’ve lost your baby but he actually just fell asleep in the corner of the living room under a couch cushion. Fear to joy. Teach me a lesson?
