Lost in Leeds | Fields of Dill

https://lifeindulwich.wordpress.com/2012/12/27/lost-in-leeds

8230;life in Dulwich and Bristol. Where I like to eat – a work in progress. So we went round the one way system in Leeds a couple of times trying to reach our hotel which was tantalisingly just 50 metres away at one point. Whilst gnashing our teeth in the rain in the gridlocked traffic, these two cheerful doggies looked so happy and interested in everything that was going on, that some of the grrrr melted away. Dog spotting | Fields of Dill

https://lifeindulwich.wordpress.com/2013/01/08/dog-spotting

8230;life in Dulwich and Bristol. Where I like to eat – a work in progress. Spent an enjoyable New Year’s Day down at Snuff Mills, near Frenchay in Bristol, looking for dogs because watching dogs is fun. It’s a very good spot for this, if you are a fan of dogs. It’s very pretty there. Weir at Snuff Mills. The light was particularly autumnal and bright,. This dog was SOOOO happy to have a ball and lots of mud to run around in. You couldn’t keep him out of the water either. Nor this one…. You are commentin...

8230;life in Dulwich and Bristol. Where I like to eat – a work in progress. Last impressions – 2012. These are the things I’ve seen over the last couple of days. Stained glass ceiling of the Victorian Quarter arcade in Leeds. It’s pretty but puzzling. What are the amorphous blobs supposed to be? We thought they might be countries but none that we know. Must be some strange and mysterious land. The sun came out on the way to Street. That’s good as the sky seems to have sprung a permanent leak&#4...You are...

Passive aggressiveness and pretension | Fields of Dill

https://lifeindulwich.wordpress.com/2012/12/28/passive-aggressiveness-and-pretension

8230;life in Dulwich and Bristol. Where I like to eat – a work in progress. Passive aggressiveness and pretension. Our hotel in Leeds has a French name, Malmaison. Apparently this means the lift speaks to you in French. ‘Premiere etage’ it says haughtily (how do you put accents over letters on iPhones? As we get turfed out on the first floor. Not sure who thought the Frenchiness was a good idea but it just made me think, firstly, ‘Eh? 8217; Anyway, it just comes across as un petit peu pretentious. Enter ...

The Spiritual Home of the Urban Elite (c) Experian Business Strategies. 28 April, 2007. On the way out I watched:. About 10 minutes of Borat, which was rubbish. He's not some radical free agent jester-type turning the mirror on society, he's just an irritating tosspot. About 10 minutes of History Boys, which does not translate well from the stage. In fact, it was dull. The whole of something called Employee of the Month, with Jessica Simpson. Jiggle jiggle. On the way back I watched:. 26 April, 2007.

The Spiritual Home of the Urban Elite (c) Experian Business Strategies. 30 November, 2007. New York New York. Ooh, I just love the Plaza! I was puzzled to find that the New York Times is a very thin newspaper with mystifying frontpage stories - the one on Tuesday was about how Muslim girlguides in the US found they got less stick if they wore their girlguide sash over their traditional garb. This is a front page story? A bit of a slow news day, was it, lads? Very glad to be home. Posted by FBT at 11:24 pm.

The Spiritual Home of the Urban Elite (c) Experian Business Strategies. 31 October, 2007. Got into a conversation with the woman sitting next to me who lives in Marylebone while her husband lives in Surrey. She is one of these retirees who has no intention of going gently into that good night. Posted by FBT at 11:54 pm. 27 October, 2007. Get Mo's teacher to fill in ADHD questionnaire. The Spiritual Home of the Urban Elite (c) Experian Business Strategies. 31 December, 2007. I am in bed with a cold. The rest of them have hard-heartedly gone out for a walk on the common, as if to rub in their state of rude good health. I am keeping myself entertained by watching the birds' stealth attacks on our bedroom window birdfeeder. They do not stay more than the 2 seconds it takes them to grab a seed and get the hell out of there. What are they afraid of? Larry: How did you get in then? Went to t...

The Spiritual Home of the Urban Elite (c) Experian Business Strategies. 20 June, 2007. Had a lovely long weekend as I took Monday off work. This was the weekend we were supposed to be going to Kyoto in, but bailed because of all the moving stress and I think it was a good decision. LSS sent out our change of address e-mail to all and sundry, and so many people wrote back saying, What, no leaving drinks? Posted by FBT at 1:08 pm. 13 June, 2007. Tee-hee. Sorting through our old stuff last night and found a letter from Lammy Hippy As Was, written on 30 June 1997, with a newspaper clipping re the handover. The Spiritual Home of the Urban Elite (c) Experian Business Strategies. 26 September, 2007. They were collecting for something called Haven House Children's Hospice at Canary Wharf station today. The lady stood forlornly there with her bucket while hordes of people charged past her through the doors to the escalators. I backtracked to put a couple of quid in her bucket, so that she would not go away thinking that City workers' reputation for being a bunch of rich selfish pigs was well-deserved. Dentist a...

I don't know why the newspapers always go on about Hampstead Heath as though it had anything going for it apart from a view and lots of cruising homosexuals, and never say a word about Richmond Park. Yes, I do, it is because all the people who work in the media live in North London. Curly: You know, Curlyland is very far from the earth and the moon. Me: Is it on a completely different planet? The Spiritual Home of the Urban Elite (c) Experian Business Strategies. 29 May, 2007. I’m having a strange stiff correspondence with some admin woman in the children’s prospective new school in the UK. She is one of these very middle class women who clearly has a problem with the fact that I use her first name (and my own first name) instead of keeping everything on a Mrs So-and-So basis, as if we were two Edwardian women with pokers up our arses. Speaking of strange foibles, I was at dinner with a woman...

The must try Turkey Brine recipe. November 26, 2013. In the few hundred years that we have had Thanksgiving there has been an never ending quest to figure out how to cook the perfect turkey. Do you cook it upside down, what temperture is it really done at and of course do you cook it stuffed or not? Well this year all the rage is to “brine” your turkey. What does that mean? Here’s What To Do:. For a 16 to 20 pound turkey:. 1 cup brown sugar. 1 tablespoon whole peppercorns. 5 stems fresh thyme. Back in th...

Watched Burn After Reading with my mate, Bert, tonight. I enjoyed it! But they were a bunch of the most awful people one might ever care to watch. I will be looking forward to it all day. Posted by gilamonster : 22:40 0 comments. I think fun was had by all the six or nearly six year old girls - well there was a lot of screaming. Altho...

Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Word of the month: busy. 1 engaged in action. 2 full of activity. 3 foolishly or intrusively active. 4 full of distracting detail. My point is, all this activity has put this blog on the back burner.like, way in the back. It used to occur to me at least weekly to blog. But tonight was the first time since my last post about 6 weeks ago. So please forgive me as I race to the finish line of this school year.hopefully I'll post more frequently this summer! 8220;I believe in God like I believe in the sunrise. Not because I can see it, but because I can see all that it touches.” -C.S. Lewis. Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Generally speaking, coming back home after 3 months in "paradise" is hard. The 4" of snow we had last night and the week and a half we went through without sunshine didn't help. The difference in Durban is that all of this is happening right alongside extreme poverty. In Minneapolis living in poverty means a family's income is less than about $...
