Life In Robin's Nest. Come along to Robin's Nest to see what's blooming at my house! I might also go exploring or look around my home, so come visit my nest anytime. Sunday, May 13, 2012. We've recently returned from yet another vacation in Florida, and on this visit, we stopped in to see my dad and stepmother on Siesta Key. What a beautiful spot this is! A few feathered friends joined us at the beach that night. And with a glass of wine in hand, we said goodnight to the day. Cheers, to life at the beach!
Life In Robin's Nest: Summer Goes On
http://lifeinrobinsnest.blogspot.com/2013/08/summer-goes-on.html
Life In Robin's Nest. Come along to Robin's Nest to see what's blooming at my house! I might also go exploring or look around my home, so come visit my nest anytime. Thursday, August 8, 2013. This summer is warm and sticky, as usual, but not nearly as hot as expected. And we've had lots of rain, which is totally different! There are plenty of plain pink zinnias around here too. Plain, yeah right. They are gorgeous, and floriferous! Even the traditional black eyed susans look better than usual this year.
Life In Robin's Nest: Got To Get Back To The Garden

Life In Robin's Nest. Come along to Robin's Nest to see what's blooming at my house! I might also go exploring or look around my home, so come visit my nest anytime. Thursday, May 10, 2012. Got To Get Back To The Garden. I keep wondering what I'm missing. This year, for instance, I knew that there were buds on my peonies. Since I've never even seen them in bloom I didn't even know what color they are, and I was afraid to miss them. I didn't! Moonshine yarrow had buds when I left, so I knew I'd find bloom...
Life In Robin's Nest: A Spring Chill
http://lifeinrobinsnest.blogspot.com/2012/04/spring-chill.html
Life In Robin's Nest. Come along to Robin's Nest to see what's blooming at my house! I might also go exploring or look around my home, so come visit my nest anytime. Monday, April 23, 2012. I guess I shouldn't complain. After all, there was snow today in the northeast! But I am not loving the spring chill. Brrrrr! I use a lot of purple in the spring, especially out front. My Polish Spirit clematis is already blooming near the purple welcome mat. I found more purple in the back, alliums starting to bloom.
Life In Robin's Nest: Summer Slowdown

Life In Robin's Nest. Come along to Robin's Nest to see what's blooming at my house! I might also go exploring or look around my home, so come visit my nest anytime. Thursday, July 30, 2015. But then there's summer time. Ahhhh! Many of my activities have gone on hiatus, and my life has slowed way down. It's strange. And wonderful! Summer lends itself to slowing down, doesn't it? The heat can make us feel a little lazy. It's time to simply relax and enjoy a little quiet time. The endless rain that we stru...

The Gardener's Rest: Taking stock
http://thegardenersrest.blogspot.com/2015/08/taking-stock.html
The vaguely green-fingered thoughts of a rambling rose. It's that time of the year again; time to see what has worked and what hasn't in the summer garden. It's also a good idea to see what jobs need doing come the autumn. First off the deck. It's so in need of being replaced as the whole thing is rotting - the sound of the wood splintering under foot is unnerving. The pond has been a great success. A frog has taken up residence and the plants in and around are doing well. The bed below is lacking in wow...

Daylilies Grow On You - Home Garden Companion

Ilona's Garden Journal. Daylilies Grow On You. I just wrote a page about Daylilies, and then saw Kathy Purdy’s post on Facebook. With a delightful portrait of a variety called “Going Bananas”. It got me thinking about what colors of Hemerocallis I like best. Time For Daylilies, on Ilona’s Garden. Advertised as “peach”, it certainly is, with a ruby red marking. ‘Paper Butterfly’ has performed well for me. One cultivar that I can highly recommend is the old faithful, ‘Hyperion’. Chasing that laughing light with my camera. You are here: Home. August, please pause. August, please pause. August 7, 2015. By Jen @ The Light Laughed. It’s never been my favorite month, filled with biting, stinging bugs trapping us inside during the day, brittle brown grass, and exhausted gardens. A never ending rolling wall of hot darkness closing in earlier each night, that made the lazy dawn sleep longer. Surprise it’s a shower. Rain, a wonderful soaking, overnight rain, cooling us down, balancing th...

The Herald of Spring. February 15, 2015. Elbow Bush, or. Is a deciduous Southwestern shrub that blooms much earlier in the year (Feb-Mar) than most other plants in the region. Reptiles in the Garden. May 1, 2015. He was so chubby that at first I thought it must be a female ready to lay eggs, but nope, his markings clearly indicate otherwise. It’s a little hard to see it in this image, but he has light blue stripes along the sides of his belly — females don’t have these. On the other hand, he’s limber enough to do the splits, and to stay in that pose for a while while I took pictures. Check out the markings on his gorgeous tail. Snake, or a blind snake, about 6 inches long....

Do you think you could cut your water usage by 30%, as of right now? Residents of the Okanagan, BC, have less water per person, but we’ve been told that we use more than anywhere else in Canada, so we’re being asked to voluntarily cut back our water usage by one third to conserve what we do have. Chasing that laughing light with my camera. You are here: Home. A moment of stillness after the rain. A moment of stillness after the rain. July 27, 2015. By Jen @ The Light Laughed. Slipped into the dark of a summer evening was a delightful sound of rain hitting the roof all night. And when it stopped the next morning there was a moment of utter stillness. Silence, no cawing, mooing, barking, it was bliss, a moment to say thanks, and be grateful for what we were given. In those fleeting moments. Then sl...
Late August Good For Choosing And Planting Shrubs - Home Garden Companion
http://www.homegardencompanion.com/late-august-good-for-choosing-and-planting-shrubs
Ilona's Garden Journal. Late August Good For Choosing And Planting Shrubs. People in my neck of the woods generally plant trees and shrubs in the spring, but early fall is just as good, if not better. Late August and early September in Ohio are often dry (perhaps not this year! So some attention should be paid to making sure a newly planted bush is kept moist. Once the cooler weather and rain of fall begins, the roots will take hold and should have a good start before hard frosts. Small, Dwarf, Compact.
