Now That You Mention It...: 2012 Reboot
http://nocrust.blogspot.com/2012/01/2012-reboot.html
Now That You Mention It. Thursday, January 12, 2012. Clearly, I have not been blogging much. It turns out that writing essays feels like homework. So I need to do this differently. I woke up today and decided that it was time to reboot the blog. I went to the blogger site and tried to redesign the layout. But I couldn't remember how to change the formatting. And I was afraid that if I messed with it,. I played around with Photoshop. Turning my photograph into a cartoon. And posted the picture on Facebook.

Now That You Mention It...: The March of the Penguins
http://nocrust.blogspot.com/2008/03/march-of-penguins_15.html
Now That You Mention It. Saturday, March 15, 2008. The March of the Penguins. It has been a busy week. Who knew that the kindergarten preparation for St. Patrick's Day would be so intense? Last Friday, I had to measure each child's head for an Irish "derby hat" made out of newspaper. My instructions were to cover the children's heads and faces with newspaper and then wrap their heads tightly with masking tape. Does this count as torture? What does snail poop look like? Little creatures. Penguin artwo...

Now That You Mention It. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know how much I enjoy a good holiday celebration. You know - - Harvestoween. And Veterans’ Day. So it should come as no surprise that, in our family, we are busy getting ready for Banned Books Week (September 26-October 3). And the kids loved it. They loved Pee-tah and his little brother, Fudge. I had to do a little explaining (70s gender roles, mugging (! Apparently, Judy Blume has turned this set o...

Now That You Mention It. Friday, January 8, 2010. Of course, I have trouble containing myself when I am thrilled. Without missing a beat, I hurled myself right back into the classroom and screeched, “Green stopped reading Superfudge! It’s all going to be OK! I am so happeeeeeeeeee! The teacher looked startled and backed up a step. Then she said something like, “I’m certainly glad that’s over! I gulped. “What do you mean? 8221; I asked. Start a petition…”. 8220;Exactly,” Green said. Someone was PRETENDING...

Now That You Mention It. Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Because she had her DAD WRITE IT FOR HER. In response, I have developed an Academy Award-worthy performance that starts with me moving in close and lowering my voice. The various Ashleys. And she GOT CAUGHT. And it was so sad - all her dreams were dashed, and now she's a clerk in a widget factory, earning minimum wage. But, whatever. Ethics are overrated. Now That You Mention It...: No See, Long Time
http://nocrust.blogspot.com/2010/08/no-see-long-time.html
Now That You Mention It. Wednesday, August 25, 2010. No See, Long Time. Did you hear that scream? So sorry. That harrowing noise came from Green. And no, he didn't lose a limb. He and his brother made a "solar cooker" out of a cardboard box and tin foil. They decided this afternoon that they were going to saute some crab apples, uncut, soaked in half a bottle of vegetable oil. To make apple pie. Needless to say, the project didn't work. AND HE'S NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO COOK ANYTHING AGAIN! But here we ...

Now That You Mention It. Saturday, September 22, 2007. The hardest thing for me has been the fact that I don't really know what's going on for them during the day. In the afternoons, I ask for an update, and I usually get a gossipy story about kids who didn't follow the rules (pronounced woo- wuls. Most of these rules seem to concern having kids SHUT UP. Here are a few, in Blue and Green's words:. It will disturb other classes that have their windows open. 2) Don't talk during directions. Guess what, boy...

Now That You Mention It...: Contradictions

Now That You Mention It. Friday, May 9, 2008. Guess what, dear readers! I have a holiday to talk about! And no, it’s not Teacher Appreciation Day or Take Your Grownup to Lunch Day. There’s a very important holiday that the boys recently celebrated in school, one that required nearly two weeks of preparation: Earth Day. The bad news is that they used nearly 30 reams of paper to do their Earth Day craft projects. 8220;to see lots of wood in various stages from tree to finished product.”. When I agreed to p...
