Gentle Pursuits of Richmond EGA. Sunday, December 15, 2013. End of a Busy Year of Gentle Pursuits. Wonderful food, wonderful Ta-Das and a great meeting in November. Cathy Keith discussed how to use 4 specialty threads (with advice from The Stitching Studio. And the practice piece was a small plastic canvas that fit in a pen. What a great idea for a gift giving. Don't forget that our first meeting of the new year is not at the regular time. January 18, 2014 Meeting (Saturday). Links to this post.

Gentle Pursuits of Richmond EGA. Sunday, May 4, 2014. Needle Painting Class April 2014. Our April meeting was a wonderful class on needle painting taught by Carolyn Porter. Not only was she a patient instructor but she created detailed kits to help us learn about this beautiful technique. As you can see from the photo above, there are tricks to getting the right color combinations for needle painting and Carolyn gave us lots of idea for finding the right combination. http://gentlepursuits.blogspot.com/2014/04/march-2014-ackworth-sampler-lecture.html
Gentle Pursuits of Richmond EGA. Monday, April 7, 2014. March 2014 Ackworth Sampler Lecture. For those who couldn't attend the lecture, one of the best sites online to see Ackworth Samplers and order patterns is Needleprint. Both Dee and Holly agreed that the best book is Quaker School Girl Samplers from Ackworth. The breadth and scope of Holly's collection is very impressive! The Ta-Da table had some lovely items, including a couple of Kumihimo bracelets from Linda's February program and some dyed fabri...

Stitching with Kittens: A Week of Leaves and Stems
http://stitchingwithkittens.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-week-of-leaves-and-stems.html
Stitching, books, cats, and other favorite things. Saturday, May 30, 2015. A Week of Leaves and Stems. I'm trying hard to climb out of my stitching rut! Step one was finding something ready to go. . . all in one place . . . and near the top of the WIP pile. I'm really happy with my choice - a Jane Nicholas piece that was taught at our EGA chapter as part of the fall 2013 International Teachers Tour. Day 3 - It took 3 days of work, but the leaves and stems are now complete! Day 4 - Moving forward, it's ti...

Stitching with Kittens: April 2013
http://stitchingwithkittens.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Stitching, books, cats, and other favorite things. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. As I bet you've all guessed, I've been in a MAJOR stitching rut this year. Why? The usual. . . .I'm either avoiding some stitching I SHOULD be doing (and end up doing nothing) or (major reason) I get to a point where I need to either make a decision or tackle something I'm not terribly good at. . . and again. . . . react by going into paralysis mode. This project was inspired by Pat Trott's. Three Dimensional Embroidery Stitches.

Stitching, books, cats, and other favorite things. Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Two Whole Days to Spare! But I'm happy to report that I've managed to rise to the occasion. . . and now have, framed and ready to wrap, a finished piece. . . a whole TWO days before the date of my friend's in-town celebration party for the newley weds. And here it is. . . . . It's a little easier to see the stitching in this photo, taken before mounting and framing:. Couldn't have done it without you. View my complete profile.

Stitching with Kittens: June 2015
http://stitchingwithkittens.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Stitching, books, cats, and other favorite things. Friday, June 12, 2015. I wanted to post some photos of a super fun little project I completed earlier this year. Each January our EGA chapter hosts a workshop that does something requiring a needle and thread. . . but usually a little outside of traditional embroidery. This year our guest teacher was beading instructor Cathy Helmers, who taught a 3-dimensional beading class. You can see some of Cathy's work here. Back view (love the wild and crazy hair!
