Tales from the Outer Hebrides.

Tales from the Outer Hebrides. Wednesday, March 06, 2013. HOODED CROW IN GARDEN. Now, in general, I see society as slowly pushing forward positively, but recently, national and local decisions brought about by financial cuts lead me to conclude that we might all be going to hell in a handcart. Here on the croft, improvements are taking place slowly. Retirement last year gave me the impetus I needed to organise the replacement of the stock fencing, which was last replaced thirty or forty years ago and...

Tales from the Outer Hebrides.: January 2011

http://lifeonlewis.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Tales from the Outer Hebrides. Sunday, January 30, 2011. First of all, the good news. I now have a new grandson, born fit and well at 4:30am on Christmas Eve. For those who are interested in this sort of thing, he was 8lb 6oz at birth and mother and child are both healthy. The poor mite will probably regret having his birthday at Christmas when it comes to presents, but we will have to ensure that he doesn't lose out. On the way back home, I couldn't help but be consumed with worry about the prospect of ...

Tales from the Outer Hebrides.: May 2010

http://lifeonlewis.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Tales from the Outer Hebrides. Tuesday, May 18, 2010. OLD COTTAGE, SOUTH UIST. When I came to live on Lewis, I was still smarting from the comments of a friend(! Down South who, after a night on the red wine, accused me of being staid, resistant to change and set in my ways. Well, after nearly five years of coping with unpredictable weather, Hebridean tradesmen, building Inspectors and suicidal sheep and collies on every road, I think I can claim to have improved. The conversation then went like this:.

Tales from the Outer Hebrides.: LEWS CASTLE, STORNOWAY

http://lifeonlewis.blogspot.com/2012/09/l-ews-castle-stornoway-following-years.html

Tales from the Outer Hebrides. Tuesday, September 25, 2012. LEWS CASTLE, STORNOWAY. Following years of slow decay,. I love the feeling of change in Autumn, when the temperature drops, the fires are lit and the days become significantly shorter. With almost no deciduous trees on the island, there is no dramatic change from green to brown, or leaf drop, to herald the advent of Winter. The obvious signs of. Colder days to come are the browning of the moors all around us and the disappearance of most flowers.

Tales from the Outer Hebrides.: A CORNER OF STORNOWAY HARBOUR

http://lifeonlewis.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-corner-of-stornoway-harbour-life-is.html

Tales from the Outer Hebrides. Wednesday, October 17, 2012. A CORNER OF STORNOWAY HARBOUR. Life is a bit more active than usual at the ranch just now. I have a friend from the South staying for three weeks and he is particularly keen on fending off old age and remaining fit as long as possible. The weather here on Lewis has been fantastic for much of the last week and he has been dragging me out for a walk most days, although I confess to being reluctant on occasions. So the probability is that Tripadvis...

The House | Hebridean Dreams

http://www.blog.cankita.co.uk/category/the-house

Counting down the days. Les on January 20th, 2010. Well, prompted - and shamed - by The Landlady into doing a bit of blogging again I will now record for posterity that today was the day that we instructed the estate agents to sell the house. So is this finally the end of the beginning of the dream? 2 Comments, read on. Les on August 20th, 2009. I’ve often wondered why people start blogs and then don’t keep them up to date. After all, how difficult can it be to write a few words every day? It certainty h...

Woman on her own? Let’s make some dosh! | Hebridean Dreams

http://www.blog.cankita.co.uk/woman-on-her-own-lets-make-some-dosh

Counting down the days. Woman on her own? Let’s make some dosh! In the last post I mentioned the ‘adverse’ survey report that had been done on mother-in-law’s house. Since then we’ve spoken further to the estate agent. The potential buyer is a single woman, not sure how old but she’s on her own. Fair game eh? So there might be a good outcome after all, but we still haven’t had anything positive on our house so it’s all to little avail. One Response to “Woman on her own? Let’s make some dosh! Month, and 20.

The Tin Shed: November 2011

http://bytheloch.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Living and crafting in the Pennine foothills. Friday, 25 November 2011. Last weekend was spent on a retreat out on the north Yorks moors - very Kathy and Heathcliffe complete with swirling mist. Organised by pal Jane at the West End outdoor centre the emphasis was on Reiki, meditation, shamanic drumming and stick breaking meditation in the woods. Great weekend had by all although the journey home was pretty horrendous because of thick fog. All the pics relate to the retreat - we were in nidderdale. The g...

Living and crafting in the Pennine foothills. Friday, 16 July 2010. 49 years is a long time . Met up with my cousin Paula whom I haven't seen for 49 years and in my excitement I forgot to take pictures as did she! The Tin Shed: December 2009

http://bytheloch.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Living and crafting in the Pennine foothills. Wednesday, 30 December 2009. Soup, polo necks again, tidying and no pics! Whoops have been really busy knitting today and before I knew it the light had gone and wanted to take pics in natural light - will tie a knot in my hanky so that I remember to do it tomorrow! Will develop this idea a bit, knitted on four needles it was a bit thick and stiff to manage but quick to knit. Have also been making soup today, still very cold outside - ideal soup weather!

Friday, January 14, 2011. Vegas Cup - Day 1 Match Report. Today was the first day of Tommy's first out of state soccer tournament. It was really fun and exciting. We are going to build a match report for each match during the tournament to keep everyone informed. We will try to post match highlight videos tomorrow. By the way, I know we are over dramatizing this match; I'm not seriously thinking Tommy's soccer is this epic. I'm just having fun writing this with him and making it sound super cool. I've be...

LIFE ON LENS | From the Perspective of a Canon EOS 550D

From the Perspective of a Canon EOS 550D. 8220;I bit into a morsel of Pin Xiang’s signature prawn dish, and the gush of marinated juices flooded my tongue. Sweet, succulent with a dash of spice and lime – the perfect blend to the crustacean’s own natural sweetness. In that moment, I had found in a simple dish, a taste of serendipity….”. Tucked somewhere among the streets of Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, in a place called Aman Suria, is a cosy coffeeshop-style Restaurant Pin Xiang. I had already known that Res...

Living life with less debt. December 31, 2016. Wow Did you ever think that we would see this day? January 1, 2017. Kind of makes you think that we should be close to entering the world of the cartoon The Jetsons. By the way, I loved that show as a kid. Today is the day that everyone makes resolutions and starts attacking them without a plan. I don’t like resolutions. I like goals. For which I have made some for 2017. That’s it. Those are my goals.
