My Life On The Boards
What The Air Traffic Controller Saw: June 2013
http://lifeontheboards.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
What The Air Traffic Controller Saw. My Life On The Boards. Things You Should Never Say While In Training. My lingering impressions of On-the-job training are that it was stressful for everyone involved and a kill shot to the ego for some. Apparently though; it isn't always that way. Take a look at the training session below. The instructor maintains a professional demeanor, remains admirably calm under pressure, and is clearly a master of his trade. And before I forget; kudos to the customer who remains...

What The Air Traffic Controller Saw. My Life On The Boards. Isaac Newton warned us that "what goes up must come down." That got me thinking about my first Supervisor at Big Time. Jon must not have believed Sir Isaac. Most of us controllers wished Jon would go up and never come down. You know; like Voyager I or II. He went up alright but didn't keep going. He came down; suddenly and swiftly. It wasn't a soft landing either. Old Idlewild Airport, now known as JFK. Mirrors and performance appraisals both ha...

What The Air Traffic Controller Saw. My Life On The Boards. To Square One And Back. High school left me with very little education and a whole lot of bad memories. When the time came, I hurried through my graduation ceremony then ran off to find the most menial and low paying job a substandard grade average might qualify me for. I got lucky! Volunteer day at Barber's College? Everybody got the haircut. Then, after the issuing of uniforms, we all began sweating our way through the ensuing weeks of ver...

What The Air Traffic Controller Saw. My Life On The Boards. Adio Detection And Ranging, known more affectionately as "Radar," appears to be going the way of dinosaurs and Dodos; replaced by a system of satellites that would deign to look down on the ever changing, challenging and, to me, charming world of aviation. Me and my radar always looked up to that world though. I guess we always will. I know this to be true and have the gray hairs to prove it. The answer; "Yeah, he's radar. Climb him to twelv...

Life on the Books
Life on the Books. Thursday, December 17, 2015. Insert straight face smiley here. Today was my school's Christmas luncheon. We get volunteers to watch our classes and we all go into the library to eat a potluck meal. It is generally a jolly time and a nice way to talk without the kids being there. Well, today just sucked. Remember that previous post about the teacher across the hall from me being pregnant? Well, that is apparently a hot topic to talk about. Hopefully next Christmas will be much better!

Life On The Borderline
Life On The Borderline. Sunday, 18 January 2015. Random Thoughts from the ER. Standing outside the hospital room, Aileen is talking to the psych student. She finds it much easier to be open about things if I step outside the room. It's hard not knowing what is being spoken about in there but I have to trust she is being forthcoming. I guess if I don't know what is going on, I can't fix it. And as a mom, I want to fix it. I'm sitting here in the darkness of the hospital ER room. It seems like Aileen i...
