Monday, 24 May, Lost City Trek, Day 5. I’m over my mini-meltdown- after wallowing for a couple of hours at rock-bottom, the last two days have been way better. My clothes were all soaked of course, but in the rational light of day I realized that I’d only have had dry clothes for about ten minutes a day anyway before getting caught in some sort of rainstorm. I'm Off on A Huge Trip. I've been in Buenos Aires for almost a year and a half now. I love this city like crazy, but it's time for another adventure. Thanks to a boost from my favorite aunt, I'm off for the next four or five months or so! The plan is to see what sort of stuff I find on the road. I'm certainly not pressed for time. Volunteering for a month in the Amazon? Hiking in the mountains? Salsa dancing in the city I refer to every time I tell someone what my name is (Cali)? Picture of the day.

Saturday, 22 May, Lost City Trek, Day 3. I was the only one who took a top bunk (why did I do that? I threw something at it, it ran off, and here I am. I am infuriated because I can’t sleep and I’ll be a zombie tomorrow. I want someone to feel sorry for me, but I’m too proud to complain to anyone else. I asked for this. Ben got sick with food poisoning last night. I saw him stretched out, green and miserable, on a picnic-table bench, and this morning he went back to Santa Marta on a mule. Poor guy. Thursday, May 5. Armenia, Colombia. Salento is a tiny town about an hour from Armenia. In retrospect, I realize that I should have stayed here. It’s what I assumed Armenia would be before I ever got there: colonial, colorful, charming. It’s also the nearest town to the Valle de Cocora, the valley where you can Jeep up to hike among the famous wax palms (Colombia’s national tree). From the outside riders. It's free, and staying with locals lets you avoid the gringo trail-type activities (hostel-hosted barbeques, Irish pubs) that are easy to fall into if you only ever meet other travelers. It's also great Spanish practice.
