A field notebook of suburban life. How is your midlife crisis treating you? For me, I want to throw more parties, do more higher-level charity work, and write. Maybe start a rock band of like-minded women, and secretly rock out in the garage. I bet Lilly Pulitzer would do an electric guitar, if we asked. They’ve done bikes and jeeps; how hard could it be? Take up golf, again. Travel. Live a life with less stuff, and more experiences. 9 More Inches: Write Your Own Joke, Here. First time in snow pants!

A field notebook of suburban life. Posted in Suburban Field Notes. The temperature finally crossed the freezing line and for the first time in six weeks I was able to get my car out of the garage. Oh, sweet freedom! I ran errands. But it still counts as freedom, right? I had a coffee I didn’t make in one hand, and for a few seconds in each parking lot I paused to enjoy the slightly-more-than-freezing temperatures. Twenty, thirty-five, fifty. How is your midlife crisis treating you? This weekend, an old f...

Pieces of my life: from the perspective of a 40-something mother and more. Still here →. Soup feel the love. March 3, 2014. Y’all, I was afraid I might have forgotten my password to get in here to post. Or that WordPress might have changed everything around so much I couldn’t figure out where to go. But, happily, though they have changed up some stuff for sure, I think I can still figure it out. I’m at a bit of a loss for what to call this recipe, since it’s one I mostly made up all on my own...2 links a...

Pieces of my life: from the perspective of a 40-something mother and more. 8230;aka the Most Prudent Man in my world. Aka My Sweet Husband. This was originally a post, but at the very least the man deserves his own page. He puts up with a lot.). I’ve been getting some grief for referring to my beloved as The Most Prudent Man (in the World), and okay, I can imagine that it might have some negative connotation. Prudent=Prude, or something. Suggests wise self-restraint, as in resisting a rash impulse. The M...

A Place In Time (Berry) – more tales from the fictional town of Port Arthur, this is my go-to for trying days. Letter to a Man in the Fire (Reynolds Price) – A book recommended to me in my questioning path of faith, and developing grasp of God. Remember, I’m always in the market for recommendations, so yours are welcome. Really! News of the Spirit. The $64 Tomato (Alexand...

Pieces of my life: from the perspective of a 40-something mother and more. In which i am irreverent, and condone a killing to boot. Soup feel the love. →. July 11, 2013. So I was at Kroger today and noticed a section of crackers about 4 linear feet long, different flavors of the same variety, each flavor with its own temporary shelf tag reflecting the excitement! 2/700 For an item ordinarily priced at … 3.59. Note: “Look for the yellow tags! Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). Surely there is more?

Pieces of my life: from the perspective of a 40-something mother and more. Polling canceled on account of weather. On a happier day →. April 16, 2013. My original email stated, “I have are two identical sinks equipped with a matched set of your faucets and drains. One of them drains despite the stopper being engaged. The other does not.”. And, yes, screwed it on tightly! Only one of the sinks exhibits this problem. ERGO, NOT INCOMPATIBLE. I follow that by asking him to simply mail me out a new drain ...

Pieces of my life: from the perspective of a 40-something mother and more. Today i reframe failure. In which i am irreverent, and condone a killing to boot. May 9, 2013. It is late spring, and the season of fully sanctioned worship in our public schools. Separation of church and state, perhaps, but now let us bow down for the great portion of the school day and pay obeisance at the feet of the god of standardized testing. I’ve written before, at some length, about my feelings as a non-believer. MeganR...
