A Southern boy in the Windy City. SIX IN A ROW. Wow That was an incredibly ugly game. So ugly I'm not even going to save it from the DVR onto DVD. But it was enough. Six in a row! Fucking hell yeah. AND I got the Adlac Trivia Question correct. So here's to you, Tubs, Brandon (so long, thanks for the wins, but its time you best got on up outta here), and the magnificent beasts of the Auburn defense (Blackmon, you are BEAST OF THE WEEK). I salute you. SIX IN A ROW! Too Bad, So Sad. By halftime last night, ...

A Southern boy in the Windy City. FEMA wants you to die. Saloncom reports FEMA watered down reports of the cancer risks of living in the FEMA trailers. Wowthey really have it out for NOLA, eh? At the risk of turning this blog into nothing but Obama and REM porn, comes the announcement straight from the band itself. REM is touring the US this summer. Not only is this news awesome, but the cherry on top is the list of opening bands: Modest Mouse and The National. I shit thee not. Rock. Joe Cribbs Car Wash.

A Southern boy in the Windy City. I followed the Spurs when I could, rejoicing in their 2003 title, but then Robinson retired and I was left without a favorite player. The Hornets had moved to New Orleans and I did my best to follow them, but they were kind of bad in a highly competitive Conference and I never really followed the Mavs because I cant stand Nowitski, though I love Nash. In the summer of 2004, I joined Pete and Misko in rooting against the Lakers and actually FOR the Pistons during the Fina...

A Southern boy in the Windy City. Hard to believe I haven't touched this thing in 8 freaking months. And a lot has happened in those 8 freaking months. First and foremost, I have a new job. Running this thing. One of my main concerns going into this job was that of my being an "outsider." I knew very few people in the Chicago Online Media circle and, to be honest, it was rather intimidating. Who the fuck am I to mess around with the big kids? Part of it has to do with the fact I'll bust my ass on somethi...

A Southern boy in the Windy City. A few bits of news in my world this week. First, I have a new roommate. His name is Franklin Roosevelt. He likes chewing things and following me around the kitchen no matter what I'm doing. He sleeps in a $10 Walgreens bed next to mine and even has his own crate in our library in which he sits sometimes. He likes walking in the park, peeing in the park, and pooping in the park. He also enjoys chasing his own tail. You can read my posts here. Beth just laughed, God bless ...

A Southern boy in the Windy City. This week, we get our first taste of the new R.E.M. record, Accelerate. Due April 1, 2008. And 2004's Around the Sun. But upon further listen, each of those records reveals itself as more and more disappointing. Only Reveal. Remains a record that has any real stature in my opinion. Hopes were lifted with the band's "live rehearsals" in Dublin in July of 2007. Stipe himself has insisted that this is the fastest thing R.E.M. has recorded in "20 years." That...The songs cer...

A Southern boy in the Windy City. Now you can VOTE! The '89 Tornado turns 18! Hard to believe it's been 18 years since Huntsville experienced its worst tornado in the city's history. I remember the day in pretty vivid detail. Kind of hard to forget, to be honest. And don't remember much about it. A few days later from a neighbor. 10 for Papa Bear. For what its worth, trains no longer run along those tracks, that I know of. It just went down and hasn't had time to get to Lily Flagg or Weatherly Road yet&#...

A Southern boy in the Windy City. So I FINALLY got my hands on a copy of the upcoming R.E.M. record, Accelerate. Due out April 1 on Warner Bros. And I gotta say, after several listens, it kicks ass and even the weaker songs still hold up. As an album, it's only 34 minutes long but a much more cohesive collection of songs than the last 3 records ( Up, Reveal, Around The Sun. Felt) or bloated, and while the production seems not quite up to par with the songs (though that could just be the rip of the CD), i...
