Culinspiration: follow your tongue. Come eat with me. Laquo; “Moroccan” Chicken Stew. World’s Best Fudge Brownies (with gluten-free variation). Persian Almond and Sour Cherry Rice Pilaf. This unusual rice pilaf makes a great side dish for baked chicken or grilled meat. The combination of sweet/savory and tart/buttery flavors is delicious. I imagine it would even be good using a prepared saffron rice mix. In any case, try this! It’s such a nice twist. Adapted from Food and Wine. 1 c basmati rice. 4 In a s...

Culinspiration: follow your tongue. Come eat with me. Laquo; Easy Rhubarb Custard Cake. Cooking something delicious is really much more satisfactory than painting pictures or making pottery. At least for most of us. Food has the tact to disappear, leaving room and opportunity for masterpieces to come. The mistakes don’t hang on the wall or shelves to reproach you forever. This sad dish was an unsuccessful hybrid of Emeril Lagasse’s recipe. For Cuban-style pork chops. This gluten-free almond meal bread.

Culinspiration: follow your tongue. Come eat with me. Laquo; Cooking Failures. Yes, there were oranges. Lots of them! But what I’ll remember most about my trip to Valencia (aside from the sunshine and excellent company) is the 5-course lunch I had at the Seu Xerea. Seared octopus with creamy polenta, sesame seeds, and chives. Mixed greens with seared chicken breast, mung bean sprouts, radish, sesame vinaigrette, and citrus aioli. Strawberry soup with basil ice cream and sesame garnish. Yes, you should!

Diary of a Swaneeswan. Germany, for a year. June 6, 2010. I'm having trouble picking just one photo for this day, so I'm cheating. After some further sightseeing in Berlin, E. and I, her parents, and their friends hopped on a train and headed toward Prague. June 6 was our first full day of sightseeing there. Here we are on the funicular on Petrin Hill. Everything about the cathedral is beautiful, but this window by Mucha is exquisite. The Cool Cats' Blogs. Ich bin ein Berliner. 161;Jahakatu a Paraguay!

Diary of a Swaneeswan: December 2009
http://swaneeswan.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Diary of a Swaneeswan. Germany, for a year. Scenes from the Culture War. Berlin is a divided city:. Not a city divided between capitalists and communists, but instead a city divided between bohemians and yuppies. When the Berlin Wall fell, the eastern half of the city emptied out, and property was generally cheap. Artists, slackers, anarchists, and other bohemians filled in the void, and made the once-dreary east an increasingly area to live. This does not sit well with the pre-existing bohemians. West B...
