Light In The West: Guymon, Oklahoma to Taos, New Mexico

http://lightinthewest.blogspot.com/2012/11/guymon-oklahoma-to-taos-new-mexico.html

Light In The West. Occasional writings about the American experience. Thursday, November 1, 2012. Guymon, Oklahoma to Taos, New Mexico. Morning in the middle of the Oklahoma panhandle, still in the middle of wheat country. But increasingly dry prairie as I drove west on Hwy 64. The last oil wells. In the middle of a sixty mile stretch of nothing, no help, although it was open recently enough to have a satellite dish. Old generation grain elevator. Excitement,a bump off to the north! And then, Oh the Joy!

Light In The West: Apache Lake to Kingman, Arizona

http://lightinthewest.blogspot.com/2012/11/apache-lake-to-kingman-arizona.html

Light In The West. Occasional writings about the American experience. Sunday, November 11, 2012. Apache Lake to Kingman, Arizona. I left Apache Lake early Monday morning, up the dusty road, last look down at the cove where we camped. I mailed my ballot from Payson (next day delivery guaranteed), then drove up onto the Mogollon Rim again and into forest. Then down into the Verde Valley. Through the nice town of Clarksdale. And out to the pueblo ruins of Tuzigoot. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Near s...

We walked though the art fair going on in booths by the Delaware River on a lovely sunny day.

Light In The West: August 2012

http://lightinthewest.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Light In The West. Occasional writings about the American experience. Friday, August 31, 2012. My plan on this trip is to drive the slower, older roads, but if you have to start a trip on an Interstate, there is hardly one more scenic, more dramatic than the 150 miles of I 84 up the Columbia River gorge, from the dense forests, cliffs, and waterfalls in the west,. Into the dry, folded country to the east, all of it part of the vast Columbia River basalt flows that blanket the region. Main streets and old...

Light In The West: Sacramento to Klamath Falls, Oregon

http://lightinthewest.blogspot.com/2012/11/sacramento-to-klamath-falls-oregon.html

Light In The West. Occasional writings about the American experience. Thursday, November 15, 2012. Sacramento to Klamath Falls, Oregon. After an easy weekend visiting, walking, biking, eating and drinking beer, and more visiting, I drove through downtown, across the Sacramento River and north up I 5. The valley is heavily agricultural, with rice, grain, olives and more. At the north end of the valley past Red Bluff and Redding, into mountains and past Lake Shasta. Walking On: Diego Rivera and His Idols

http://peatwalk.blogspot.com/2012/10/diego-rivera-and-his-idols.html

Travel journeys and long walks. Saturday, September 1, 2012. Diego Rivera and His Idols. Museo Anahuacalli, Mexico City. A Home For My Idols. The second dream, one of thirty-five years’ standing, was renewed by the destruction wreaked everywhere by the war. It was to build a home for my anthropological collection, which I had started to assemble on my first return to Mexico in 1910. Can you see Frida or Diego actually wielding hammers themselves? Perhaps they hired workers, ummmm? This venture, however, ...

Travel journeys and long walks. Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Monticello : Thomas Jefferson's Masterwork. Charlottesville’s favorite son, Thomas Jefferson, left more than a theoretical mark on the nation and the world. The ambitious abstractions he wrote in the Declaration of Independence. Remain the international benchmark for democratic standards of government and civil liberty. Jefferson also championed the western explorations of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.
