So, having created their own problem and with nightmare visions of similar Soviet bombers coming out of the East in unreachable and therefore invulnerable waves, in 1947 the Ministry of Supply issued Experimental Requirement 103 for a manned research aircraft capable of exploring transonic and supersonic speeds. Both English Electric and Fairey Aviation submitted proposals, the former being designated the P.1 and the latter the FD.2.

The Story of XR724. For Sale and Wanted. The Lightning Association was formed in the year following the aircraft’s retirement from RAF service in the spring of 1988 when a Lightning Rally for all Lightning enthusiasts as well as aircrew and ground crew was organised at Binbrook on 2 July 1989. 上海市防雷中心防雷产品测试中心始建于 2003 年 5 月，是从事防雷设备检测的公益性科学技术单位，隶属于上海市气象局，业务上受中国气象局和上海市气象局的指导。 上海市防雷中心防雷产品测试中心 主要承担 低压配电系统电涌保护器 SPD 、连接至电信和信号网络的电涌保护器 SPD 等防雷设备和 SPD 用元器件的检测 ，为政府和社会的 防雷 管理和决策提供技术监督、技术支持和技术服务。 测试中心于 2005 年顺利通过中国实验室国家认可委员会 CNAL 评审， 2007 年通过 CNAS 监督评审。 2006 年中心先后顺利通过了德国 TüV 莱茵公司及美国 ETL 爱迪生实验室的认可，协助其在国内开展欧洲标准 EN61643 和美国国家标准 ANSI/UL1449 认证工作的电涌检测实验室。 2007 年 6 月测试中心正式成为中国质量认证中心 CQC 签约实验室。 2007 年底，测试中心签约全球第二大认证公司 Intertek ，与其合作开展电涌保护器 SPD 的 IECEE CB 认证工作。 上海市防雷中心防雷产品测试中心现有职工 9 人，其中博士 1 名、硕士 1 名及本科 7 名。
