The renderings on this page were created by students as part of a lighting design exercise for which the light plot had to be executed in our Model Design Space. The Lighting positions are therefore physically based - students can not position lights where none exist! Please note that apart from converting the .tiff renderings to .jpg no other changes have been made to the files. If you are using a non-gamma corrected Pc you may find the images a little dark - click here. Man for all Seasons.

Our processes and outcomes. Listed below is a brief outline of the processes which we use for teaching Entertainment Lighting Design (with respect to technical drawing, 2D Cad and 3D Digital Lighting Design), and their outcomes. Please note that this list does not include Theory classes or practical production experience! 1st Year : 2nd Semester. Students are introduced to basic technical drawing i.e. ground plans, sightlines, etc. 2nd Year : 1st Semester : 1st Term. 2nd Year : 1st Semester : 2nd Term.

In order to utilise the Portable Digital Stages you will need a lighting design tool that can export the lighting data in RIB format. Although there are a wide range of Cad / modeling tools that can do so, there are only three (that I'm aware of) that support Entertainment Lighting Design conventions, gels, etc. They are:. Listed below are a number of Renderman compliant / capable renderers, with some comments of my own. All of them are available in some form of demo or evaluation version. I strongly recommend that you try them out before spending your Department's annual budget! The Portable Digital Stages were successfully tested on Pixar's Renderman and BMRT.
