Tracer, Frederick Barthelme | The thingness of things
https://thethingnessofthings.wordpress.com/2015/05/14/tracer-frederick-barthelme
The thingness of things. Books read / fiction written / real life. Tracer, Frederick Barthelme. 14 May, 2015. Novel, paper, finished 14 May 2015. Frederick Barthelme often looks very serious and grumpy in photos. A later F. Barthelme, similar to this but I think more rounded and warmer. Also his short stories are really excellent and these are found collected in The Law of Averages. Which I would also recommend. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Is competition good? | HOWE do you do?!
https://howedoyoudo.wordpress.com/2015/07/14/is-competition-good
HOWE do you do? Me, me, me…. I’ve recently listened to a few of my colleagues talk about competition in the school environment and how both the schools that their kids attend don’t focus much on it. In fact, they seem to shy away from it with the attitude of. Everybody must do their best, well done to everybody who participated. So I’ve been wondering if humans are born with that competitive nature or if it’s something that you grow up learning as it’s. Let you win right? Who was better than the other!

Mom Dating – The Three Essential Criteria | AustinUntrained
https://austinuntrained.com/2015/08/22/mom-dating-the-three-essential-criteria
A transplanted family explores the best of Austin, Texas. Mom Dating – The Three Essential Criteria. August 22, 2015. Today Dominick and I went to the park and met a cool family. Before we met that cool family, in the same trip, we met two moms who blocked us out like they were setting a pick. (That’s the end of my basketball analogies, thankyouverymuch! It all made me think about mom dating – the process of making new mom friends, and even tougher, couple friends. What a great little hat! I may have men...

A transplanted family explores the best of Austin, Texas. Freddie’s Place on South 1st and Central Market on North Lamar. February 19, 2015. Freddie’s Place on South 1st. Inside, we were greeted by a slightly disoriented, very young hostess who had just started her shift. She seated us outside, where perhaps every family in Austin was already taking advantage of the gorgeous weather. Our only complaint comes here – we requested a high chair from the hostess and were promptly forgotten about! Leave a Repl...

HOWE do you do? Me, me, me…. July 14, 2016. Yesterday, we met up with my cousin and her kids for an early dinner straight after work at the good old Spur. The highlight…finding out that on Wednesdays, kids eat for. Okay, maybe not the highlight, but what a bonus and something to remember for those Wednesdays when cooking just doesn’t fit into my busy schedule😉 Anyway, moving on. Ethan has no cousins on my side of the family as both my sisters don’t have kids…. 8230;Lauren, Andrea, hint hint, nudge nudge.

Haruki Murakami | The thingness of things
https://thethingnessofthings.wordpress.com/2015/08/16/haruki-murakami
The thingness of things. Books read / fiction written / real life. 16 August, 2015. Haruki Murakami is basically a rock star in Japan. When he releases a book there are queues down the street for it. You know, the type of queues that happen in our country for 50 Shades of Grey. When I type Haruki into my phone it autocorrects to Hardline. This week I have read Murakami’s first two novels, Hear the Wind Sing. And Pinball, 1973. The whole bloody jazz club was his idea now he wants to be a writer? So it was...

So You’ve Been Publically Shamed, Jon Ronson | The thingness of things
https://thethingnessofthings.wordpress.com/2015/05/20/so-youve-been-publically-shamed-jon-ronson
The thingness of things. Books read / fiction written / real life. So You’ve Been Publically Shamed, Jon Ronson. 20 May, 2015. Non-fiction, paper, finished 20 May 2015. I liked this book a lot, it is very funny. It is about Jon Ronson’s attempts to understand the phenomena whereby people are mass-shamed by social media after committing some sort of faux pas like making an inadvertently racist or sexist joke or swearing in front of a war memorial or getting caught in a German-military-themed orgy.
