Diary of an expatriate runner. Many thanks, Philippides! How to run a marathon. Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Vienna, here I come. I could also get fed up of running very long distances, but now I've committed myself I have to, somehow, go up to the required distance. Snow and ice permitting. i.e. yet something else which could disrupt my build-up. Labels: Diary of an expatriate runner. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Diary of an expatriate runner. Many thanks, Philippides! How to run a marathon. Saturday, March 21, 2015. It was that day that I decided that I wasn't a spent force yet, and that I would build up to a marathon. Whatever happens, I've come a long way since that hot and humid August afternoon in Malta. Run 42k: Running in Belgium
http://run42k.blogspot.com/p/running-in-belgium.html
Diary of an expatriate runner. Many thanks, Philippides! How to run a marathon. At first I thought there was no running community at all in Belgium. That was of course an entirely mistaken impression, caused by the fact that my mind was taken up by other considerations as I struggled to settle into a new life. It didn't help, either, that I didn't understand the two languages spoken here, and that it was winter and therefore dark most of the time. The problem with forests is that you can only run there d...

Diary of an expatriate runner. Many thanks, Philippides! How to run a marathon. But what Malta lacks in size, it makes up for it in quality! When would be the best time to visit? Bugibba 10K – mid-January, flat course The race starts at a seaside tourist resort in th...

Diary of an expatriate runner. Many thanks, Philippides! How to run a marathon. Sunday, August 3, 2014. The Wings for Life World Run - 4 May 2014 in Ypres, Belgium. The event was named ' Wings for Life World Run. And the idea was (also) to collect funds for research into a cure for spinal cord injury. One of the 40 locations was in Belgium, Ypres to be precise. A one and a half hours' drive is close enough for me. Ypres is a gem of a town where I like to go, so I signed up. On Sunday 4 May, the lovely to...

Run 42k: How to run a marathon
http://run42k.blogspot.com/p/how-to-run-marathon.html
Diary of an expatriate runner. Many thanks, Philippides! How to run a marathon. How to run a marathon. Most runners take up their sport in order either to lose weight, gain fitness or stay fit. Those are already desirable goals in themselves, and running is a very efficient way to achieve them. Cycling, swimming, walking and other sports are also fun, but none of them, I think, burn up calories as fast as running, and neither are they as conveniently easy to practice. 0 The big decision. 1 The first steps.

Diary of an expatriate runner. Many thanks, Philippides! How to run a marathon. Sunday, April 19, 2015. And now it's 15 marathons! Vienna, 12 April 2015. Two years ago I declared on this blog: that's all folks! I'm now thinking that a 3 week taper is too long for me. But that's something to consider (maybe) the next time. The long, straight final 2 kilometres were long, straight, slow and never-ending. It was really difficult, and I thought I wouldn't even make 3h 45m. But I did keep running and ...I cro...

It lies at the mouth of the Douro river that pours into the Atlantic Ocean. Run 42k: A setback... or is it?
http://run42k.blogspot.com/2014/07/a-setback-or-is-it.html
Diary of an expatriate runner. Many thanks, Philippides! How to run a marathon. Sunday, July 27, 2014. A setback. or is it? In spite of having announced my retirement from marathons after Rotterdam in April 2013, I had been aspiring to build up to another marathon this October 2014. My long runs had gone up to 2h45m (for approx 30km), but I was struggling to cover this much. Walking back, I realised that giving up was like a liberation. Interesting alternative scenarios opened up. I could take a ...Long ...
