Lilacs and Springtime

Friday, August 14, 2015. While shopping the other week I saw these beautiful sugar plums. I couldn't resist purchasing some for plum jam. Never before had I made or tasted plum jam, but I had seen some recipes for plum preserves and jam on Pinterest and felt inspired. It was such a beautiful day I decided to pit the plums outside at the picnic table. When making plum jam you don't need to peel the plum, just pit them. Being outside definitely made it pleasant work. Have you made any jams this summer?

Lilacs and Springtime: Baking with Rhubarb

http://lilacsandspringtime.blogspot.com/2015/06/baking-with-rhubarb.html

Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Over the years I had never really eaten much rhubarb. I had vague memories of my mom once baking a rhubarb crisp, but with a couple picky eaters in the house it wasn't a big hit. However this spring, while at a church dinner, Adam and I purchased a strawberry rhubarb pie. It was delicious, and definitely sparked an interest for rhubarb in us both. The first was a rhubarb pie with crumb top. We both agreed that it was one of the tastiest pies we had ever eaten. Preheat oven to 350F.

Lilacs and Springtime: Smocked Dress

http://lilacsandspringtime.blogspot.com/2015/06/smocked-dress.html

Saturday, June 27, 2015. This past week my sister and her husband welcomed a sweet baby girl into their family! In honor of her arrival I made my niece a little smocked dress. It had been quite a while since I smocked anything, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with this soft lavender calico! The delicate print and color made me think of English lavender, which is perfect for this little lady. Her middle name is. Bronte. : ). June 27, 2015 at 4:47 PM. Oh, Sarah, it is beautiful! Lilacs and Springtime: A Thrifty Little Dress

http://lilacsandspringtime.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-thrifty-little-dress.html

Friday, August 7, 2015. A Thrifty Little Dress. Last month my mom gave me a blouse she no longer wanted. She had purchased the blouse a couple years ago at a thrift store. The color was a soft lavender and it was 100% rayon, but too big for her. She hated to just toss the blouse, because it was pretty and comfortable. That was when she had an idea! Mom thought that there might be enough fabric to sew something for Jemimah, and that the color would look lovely with her blue eyes. Mom was right! One challe...

Lilacs and Springtime: My Favorite Coleslaw Recipe

http://lilacsandspringtime.blogspot.com/2015/04/my-favorite-coleslaw-recipe.html

Wednesday, April 8, 2015. My Favorite Coleslaw Recipe. One of my contributions to the Easter meal at mom's house was coleslaw. Over the years coleslaw has become an essential addition to each holiday meal. This recipe has been a favorite in my family for years. It is so easy (I use my food processor to shred all of the vegetables) and it is delicious! 1 med Head cabbage. 1/3 cup vegetable oil. 189; tsp. celery seed. April 8, 2015 at 8:33 AM. Your coleslaw looks and sounds delicious, my friend! I love cab...

Delightful Handwork: June 2015

http://delightfulhandwork.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 16, 2015. The hollyhocks are blooming! Aren't they just lovely? Such an old-fashioned flower - in the best possible sense. When I went out to snap these pics it was so humid my lens kept fogging up! I think it gave the photos a rather pleasing softness though. Every time a walk past these beauties I find myself singing "Hollyhock, hollyhock, oh holly hollyhock! To the tune of Lollipop. What do you have blooming? Photos by Yours Truly}. Links to this post. A Joyful Handmaiden: Spring Semester is Underway!

http://ajoyfulhandmaiden.blogspot.com/2015/01/spring-semester-is-underway.html

Saturday, January 17, 2015. Spring Semester is Underway! We shall never find happiness by looking at our prayers, our doings, or our feelings; IT IS WHAT JESUS IS, not what we are, that gives rest to the soul. 8212; Charles Haddon Spurgeon. Before the semester began, I found myself in a coffee shop downton and was able to do some reading and journaling. Sometimes it's good to "come away and rest" as you re-group and prepare for another semester. Mmm, looks like a yummy treat! January 17, 2015 at 2:31 PM.

Carolien's stitches: November 2014

http://caroliensstitches.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 25 November 2014. A week off . Have you spotted the white veil over the lawn this morning? Bird bath frozen, pansies heads down, white leaves . We had a touch of frost earlier on, but I think King Winter has really arrived now. Time for my cherished scarf from Jenny, I took it out a few days ago. Mmm, so lovely, that scarf. Yes, there are remnants of summer, nature continues to amaze me. But in a few days the leaves were swirling down, almost in a hurry . See the tree now, by the way? Oops, you ...

Carolien's stitches: April 2015

http://caroliensstitches.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, 30 April 2015. I hope you're all doing well. It's still cold here in Holland, we even had a late touch of frost. Time for some more warmth now, time to put the geraniums out! Yes, I'm politely waiting till the ice Saints have greeted us and have left the country for this year . The plants and trees are turning green rapidly though, thanks to the rain we had. Talking about green: I made my first olive green garland on the. Sampler. Lovely colours, I'm enjoying this new start. Home of a Quilter.

http://caroliensstitches.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Friday, 30 January 2015. I hope you're having a nice day. We had a cold but nice day, partly in . Zutphen. Zutphen is an old Hanseatic city, a hanzestad. At a 40 minutes drive from Zevenaar. Fleur and I had never been there before. I knew it had to be a nice old city and it's true! It's a charming place to go, even on a cold winter's day. The parking space in the city centre was a good start: lovely small houses, dated 1873, surrounded it. A good view for Anton Pieck, I guess. See the street? A Catholic ...

Friday, 27 February 2015. While she's traveling . While Sofia is traveling by train to Zevenaar, I can show you my present for her. Last week I finished the top for her quilt. After more than two years! I had some 'in-betweens', I must confess. A baby quilt, Cock and Yvette's quilt . Since Sofia was so patient to wait and wait and wait, I decided to speed up the process. How on earth do you quilt a thimble quilt? It's a very lively but tiny pattern. Small patterns? Endless. Big patterns? Driving back hom...

Carolien's stitches: An afternoon in Utrecht

http://caroliensstitches.blogspot.com/2015/04/an-afternoon-in-utrecht.html

Thursday, 23 April 2015. An afternoon in Utrecht. Last week we went to Utrecht. André had a meeting there and Fleur was investigating something as well. We decided to combine things and spend the afternoon together, in-between-things. We visited a familiar ice cream 'hot spot' on the Oudegracht (translated: The Old Canal). They had a new flavour:. The cloister part near the Dom. I hope I can make more pictures to show you . Another time. House of the Pope. Sol iustitiae illustra nos,. We're nearly there&...

Lilacs and stuff – A prodigal's journey home

A prodigal's journey home. Of New beginnings. . . Happy new year everyone! I hope my first post of 2017 finds you in good health. I know it’s been ages since my last post and hope you forgive me (I’ve been struggling with procrastination). I need to that more often, we do need to learn from our mistakes. Sometimes though, we take it waaay too far! We want to constantly analyze and replay every mistake we’ve ever made until we’re driven to utter despair. Precious is the flow. That makes me white as snow;.
