View my complete profile. Chris' 'Letters From Iraq' Articles. Thursday, June 30, 2005. Today for example, I actually packed a bag for home, mostly just extra gear and unnecessary items, and then packed it into a conex shipping container for its very long sea voyage home. While it's still months away, it was a special treat to actually pack something for home. Posted by: Chris Chesak / 11:31 AM. We Hate the KRAB. Posted by: Chris Chesak / 11:21 AM. After saying hello to Lilli for the first time ever, I then boarded a C-130 cargo plane with all our gear on a pallet lashed to the ramp behind us. Standard protocol is to use evasive maneuvers on the descent, just in case, so the landing was fun. I just heard this exchange: "Oh no, ‘Gnome Hunter’, you got me! Two units here actually purchased wireless networks on the local economy, which co...

Posted by: Chris Chesak / 9:22 AM. Well, first of all that turned out to be a SPC Hanson photo. Second of all, I mentioned that the sidecar was being used for cargo. Well, I never knew, until just yesterday, exactly what cargo that was. Posted by: Chris Chesak / 9:20 AM. Them's sheep in them thar sidecar! That's the back of...

I fell dead asleep tonight at 10, then woke an hour later and couldn't sleep. It's COLD here. Am wearing polypro and sipping a vanilla chai (one of the benefits of a modern army's forward camp being a private coffee joint). It's cold enough for gloves and hats too. Well, Staff Sargeant (SSG) Brad Attebery had the chance one day to see how one type of bread is made, the same type that we'd call 'nan' in an Indian restaurant. The following series of Attebery photos illustrates just how it's made, and how it's probably been made for centuries. Posted by: Chris Chesak / 6:54 AM.

View my complete profile. Chris' 'Letters From Iraq' Articles. Sunday, April 17, 2005. Posted by: Chris Chesak / 2:24 PM. April 6 was a patrol day for us, but since the Alpha Section of our platoon (Alpha is first and second squads) patrolled, we (Bravo Section third and fourth squads) were down. We spent much of the day on the climbing wall just climbing, talking, and sort of lounging around. A few blocks later though, it was another rollicking street party. Much of the night was like this, a stark ...

View my complete profile. Chris' 'Letters From Iraq' Articles. Wednesday, December 02, 2009. Items to send troops overseas. Recently I've been asked by various people for ideas of just what items to send troops overseas. I thought I would pull these lists together and post them online. Hopefully someone gets some better ideas of just what to send troops, items that will actually boost their morale, instead of reminding them that people at home have no idea what they are going through. Flavored Coffee/Cre...
